Parade is always Fri. Trucks leave for downtown early from track. Police escort usually around 8:30 Am. VFW breakfast starts 8:30, drivers meeting, pit crew challenge all held prior to noon parade.

SB4PRO- it is worth driving an all nighter if you have never seen the spectacle that is Downtown Crandon the Friday before Labor Day. Tater will have the coffee ready.

It should only take about 8hrs to get from flint MI to Crandon. I'm just west of flint and we can make it in 8hrs.

Oh cool thanks you have any shortcuts we can take ? From Flint were going up 75 to Mackinaw City then over to Rhinelander on rts 2 & 8 . We're also gonna need a hotel in Flint any suggestions ? Don't need anything fancy but don't want a dump either . I'll pm ya all my cell # so we can meet each other at the track ( although I shouldn't be hard to spot I'll be covered in Robby Gordon SPEED Energy swag lol ) .

Is it not faster to go around the bottom of the lake? Assuming at the time you would be coming through Chicago should be a breeze. Stay just across the border in WI for cheap or in the Gurnee area and its about 4.5 hrs to Crandon.

Just a thought

So we don't have to go thru Canada ( no passport ) were going from Buffalo NY to Toledo OH on rte 90 , then from Toledo thru Detroit and on up to Flint on 75 . Get a hotel in Flint overnight then continue on up to Mackinaw and over to Rhinelander . Bringing my mom with me so we can't do really long driving stretches . Figure 1st day will be 8 hrs then 9 then next day .

Cleveland, Elkhart, Chicago, Milwaukee, Green Bay to Crandon. Don't go up through Michigan for any reason other than tourism.

Depending on the time you hit Shitcago, it's a little shorter, but if you get stuck in traffic it will be longer. I personally like taking the northern route, beautiful scenery, light traffic and not much for construction.

That sounds the best . Especially the light traffic and construction part . I'm checking around on trying to change my schedule to get there a day earlier . Gonna see if I can get an extra day earlier for my hotel in Rhinelander .

for us its 30 miles farther to go north and worth every mile of it to avoid chicago, milwaukee, etc. Coming from the east side of MI its even easier to go north than it is for us from the west side...

in the past we skipped going through Norway by staying on 41 in Powers, "Turn left on 41 south thenTurn right onto G 18 Rd/County Hwy-374 (Crossing into Wisconsin)" according to mapquest this is only 2 miles shorter but it seems to save 10 minutes on the drive.

the best shortcut is "right onto County Highway G/County Hwy-G" towards Argonne" taking this route you avoid the town of crandon.
