Hi folks

I'm trying to find a little info on the Tijuana Desert Challenge in September but coming up pretty light. What I want to know is - is it a worthwhile spectator event?
I live in New Zealand (that's a tiny arse couple of islands in the middle of the South Pacific for those unaware) but am travelling for work in September so am considering checking it out as part of my journey home. We came across for the Mint a couple years ago and loved it (the racing and the people) and while I realise this isn't the same profile event would love some thoughts on if it's worth the extra travel for?

Any input appreciated.

Spectating was "ok" last year but I was part of a pit. Getting in and out was no fun since it was a 2 way dirt road off the main street for about 10 - 15 mins.

But Ive heard they might move it. I think its worth checking out for at least a day. It really just depends on where they hokd it this year.

Last year it was a last minute move for the host city, course was brutal and rough (I was racing).

Everything went OK for contigency and race, heard great comments at the end of the race.

This year should be different with a longer course and bigger venue, next week is the Baja 500, not much info on the SCORE site wait till August.

I’m a local I can give you some advice once the race info is out.

Some information is out, it looks like it will be a 68 mile loop start/finish from Rancho Casian that is next to Blvd 2000, different than last year that its was 2 miles inland.

I saw a proposed course for this race and it contains 3/4 of race course from last year, new race course that has never been race and parts from the 1995 Baja 1000 and 1996 Baja 500.

I’m local to TJ, so its going to tough and brutal.

Contingency Row is from Hotel Lucerna in Paseo de los Heroes in Zona Rio, not sure if it run all the way to Real Inn has last year.

Hope city officials and SCORE considered running 3 laps with 4 groups in 2 day of racing, instead of 2 groups and 1 lap per day.

Hi,

Just an update, saw a version of the 68 mile course for this race. Let me tell you It will be tougher and rougher that 2016 and 2017 combine it's all about patience and doing your home work on pre-running. There's a 10 mile extension that most part was used for the 1995 Baja 1000 that basically it's like climbing the summit, going downhill from La Rumorosa and then racing Matomi wash, all in one (It's not official) but it's being proposed to being scouted.

Yesss,

Thats the one, its going to be epic for a 68 mile course. To bad they didn’t ad the extension that I mentioned a few posts back.

Good luck to all, and do your homework see you at contigency at Zona Rio.

Need any info regarding the city and how to get to Rancho Casian, just PM Me I’m a local.

Best Regards.
