One of my favorite memories of the Parker was listening to an interview with Rod Hall on local AM radio. The sports guy asked Rod if he was ready to go racing - Rod said: "As soon as we sober up Fricker."

The first of more to follow:

Thank you for that walk down memory lane. Some great footage of my buddy Dan Beaver and a small mention of Cameron Steele. That was racing boys and girls, Parker in the 80's was so popular, vehicles were turned away because of too many entries. California loop was brutal, then real fast over in Arizona. Man, I sure do have some great memories...what an epic era to race in. Thank you Parker Motors,Manny, BFGoodrich and Sports Racing gas!!!!!!

You beat me to it! What a great time watching these clips and listening to the in-car interview with Danny.... This is the first desert race I remember watching as a kid after we moved to Parker..... I had already been playing little league for Danny, but I count this race as getting me hooked on Desert Racing.....

Thanks for posting, that was really great coverage and great commentating. That is what we need in this sport now. I know there has been old race maps of the California side posted on RDC before, it would be cool to see one again. Anyone have the one from '89?

WOW I wish we could get great coverage like that today. I'm hoping someone could tell me why we don't use porche engines anymore. Seemed like a majority of the cars they showed were using porche engines.

It always irritates me when people say off road desert racing is too expensive or hard to cover. These posts are proof that it can be and has been done professionally. The shows don't need to be live and that way proper editorial commentating can be added post production. These shows are great, keep em coming!

Because even back in the late 80's a 6 banger Porsche motor would run you about $30k! Now, you can put a 15-20K V8 motor in the back of your class 1 and get another 200-300hp.

That's awesome, the glory days of class 8. I would love to know how my truck today would compare to the best of 20 years ago.

that brought back a lot of old memories . 89 was my last yr of living in parker full time so that was the last yr for going out a week early and scouting out new spots. one of the coolest things besides the ca loop in that video was when they re started the cars on the az side and watching them drop into the wash and the whoops that would build up by the end of the day were huge and cars would be so out of control you had to be ready to get out of the way. damn im feeling really old right now
