In desktop mode. One top navigation banner. 3 banners in between the thread posts. Total of 4. Plus the button tile of links/ads.
Yes. I turned it on yesterday for desktop while mobile had the very same location enabled for a while now.

We try to limit the per page ads to around 4.

If its too close to the reply input box then I can see how that is annoying and I will have to see it for myself. Perhaps that can be adjusted.

I wish we had another way to monetize ing place or ads would pay more so we could show less of them. Our direct sales is low so most of them are google adsense inventory. I am exploring alternative networks to replace adsense or compliment it. Adsense subject targets you as google attempts to study you through your digital footprint. They try to send you ads based on what they think you like and click on.

If its completely unworkable for you use an adblocker and order a t-shirt once a year.

Appreciate the feedback.
So basically he’s seeing porn ads because that’s what he he clicks on most of the time.

I use a work computer 99% of the time I am on RDC and any and all questionable sites are blocked. So that doesn't make sense. Only 5 of the 15 bottom ads are about Uncensored pics today. I just ignore them now that RDC classifieds are not shown there now.

Asking because you might know-

situation-

I look into buying an air fryer. Research. read reviews. do my homework.

Next day air fryers are all over my news feed. I get it. Makes sense.

Day after- I buy one.

The ads for them don't stop.

Why? Wouldnt it make sense for the advertisers to know they won and got my money.

Wouldnt it make sense to now try and sell me something else?

Beats me...perfect exploitation would now offer you the whats next....the answer goes right into purple territory....

I'll keep it brief without blaming people or organizations. Most of you probably dismiss it as crazy conspiracy talk anyways.

Its all very creepy how marketing works. Its psychology where {they} attempt to know you better then you know yourself. Once that happens you can be remote controlled.
Once you have enough data on a person you can predict what they are doing next and suddenly pop up in front of them selling them whatever you knew they where about to buy but they themselves did not know it yet.

Antidote:
1. Don't give them data. Don't leave a digital foot print. Don't use Apps in your phone as many straight up sell your data (see 2000 mules documentary for how that works). Leave your phone home away from where you are as much as possible. Use tracking preventing firewalls (pihole is nice). No voice video recorders around you (home, ring, alexa, siri etc). Don't give them your DNA (ancestor test, pcr tests). No free cloud computing where you become the product (fb, google) etc. on and on... you get the point.
2. Know yourself. Do emotional literacy exercises (best advise I would give a younger version of myself). Meditate. Don't drug/alcohol. Participate in life.

What is RDC doing to secure our audience?

We use google for many services because it works very well. We are in baby step de-googelizing this website. Its time intensive. Inconvenient and expensive to do. hence we do it one layer at a time. For example we stopped using dropbox for our file sharing and switched to open source software Nextcloud that emphasizes on privacy of your data. There is no active social media tracking on RDC. All SM share links are passive. Often where you see the Facebook share button it is an active tracker of FB. Here it becomes active only once you yourself click on it (pssss...do not !). We also don't share our email lists (common in this very industry by others). Its not perfect and absolute...instead a direction we are heading towards.

Adsense at this point is a necessary evil. They track your every click, move, audio and video and custom tailer ads for you.

I have been in the IT business for over 30 years. I try to tell people the info you have given above, but they seem to feel it is a convenience to have evil corporations know their data.
A common response is that I must be worried about the government having my data, but that is not it. I worry about what the megacorps will do with the info.
Look how easy it was to get much of the country hooked on heroin from one corporation's evil plan.

My friend was over and telling me about the Honda k24 engine he is building , I never looked them up or ever have but my phone starts feeding me Honda videos after just listening to my conversation.
I always thought those were old interwebs wives tales, but my daughter recently mentioned they had a conversation with a friend about her cats. My daughter said the next day she was bombarded with ads about cat products. Coincidence, conspiracy theory???

I delete every pre installed app I do not use on every phone I get. Try to set privacy settings on the ones I do use but have figured out it's pointless, still get bombarded regardless. I went deep one day on the American airlines app we use for flying back to see the kids. I worked my way down to a list of marketing or partner companies I've never heard of. I'm sure they're on some top floor of a high rise in NY. There were dozens of them I had to select not to share info with. Sad part is I probably gave them more info just clicking through all their crap to get there.
