A while back there was a discussion on here about the creative designing/fabricating/engineering of race vehicles, and someone quoted a particular designer/engineer who said "everything on a race car has to serve three purposes or it should be removed or redesigned" or something to that effect. Who said that and where did it come from? Does anyone have a book title or author for that, I would be interested in doing more reading about creative chassis development and such. Thanks.

That would be Colin Chapman of Lotus fame. Here is the thread where it was used-
"isnt chapman the same guy that said every part on a race car should have 3 functions or it should be eliminated. that one continues to blow my mind."
Try a search for the last 6 months for "Chapman", he is mentioned several times.

That was you. It was in response to my quoting Chapmam as saying the perfect race car falls apart at the finish line.
