Brock Heger Lays Down the Double Deuce Podium Finish in Reno
Brock Heger is a championship contender in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) and most recently went to Reno, Nevada for the Silver State Showdown and Rounds 5 & 6 of the 2019 short course season. Heger was able to press the competition at Wild West Motorsports Park and beat the odds to take home two 2nd place podium finishes in the #12 Maxxis Tires / Icon Suspension / Method Race Wheels Pro Lite.
In the LOORRS Series, Heger pulls double duty piloting the V8 powered Pro Lite truck, and as the 2018 reigning champion sports the #1 plated Yamaha Motors USA / Weller Racing YXZ 1000R in the UTV Production Class. Coming off back to back victories during Rounds 3 & 4, Brock was leading the division going into the weekend, and the plan was to maintain or pad the points advantage. Round 5 did not deal Heger any favors and ended early with a broken tie rod. It was a tough break as Brock’s closest points competitor’s; Robert Stout (with Mickey Thomas substituting) and Myles Cheek both took podiums on Friday.
In the Pro Lite race, Heger proved he had not lost it and found his “mojo” to race through the field to finish on the podium in 2nd place. “What a night!” Brock shared. “It looks like we missed the truck set up for this track but still was able to pull a second-place finish! Qualifying got canceled due to the wild weather, but luckily, I got some extra seat time running in the Yamaha. The #12 gave it her all, and the Maxxis Tires carried us up to the podium.” Mickey Thomas, who is 2nd in points, got his second win of the season and points leader Ryan Beat finished in 3rd.
Saturday’s Round 6 Production 1000 UTV featured Brock as the leading player putting on the show with rival UTV racer Myles Cheek challenging for the lead position. It was wheel-to-wheel for many laps of racing, but on the last lap fate threw out another lousy card that left Heger’s UTV starving for fuel only two turns from the finish. Somehow the #1 Yamaha made it up the hill, and Brock managed to finish inside the Top 10.
With the weekend winding down, Heger had one final round to play. Brock put all his cards on the table and let it hang out. The #12 Maxxis Tires / Icon Suspension / Method Race Wheels Pro Lite was running perfectly and the race started out good. Heger was running top 3, taunting the leaders, and playing the game. Hoping for a breakout moment and for the track to come in, the #12 truck had a tire go down with 5 laps to go. Brock headed into the hot pits for a fresh tire and was able to charge back from last to a 2nd place finish. The Round 6 Pro Lite podium shared the same players as before, but with Ryan Beat with the win and Mickey Thomas in 3rd place.
“Overall it was a decent weekend,” declared Heger. “I am here to win, so we need to go home and do some homework. We are coming out to race at the 50th Annual Crandon Off Road World Championship so you know we will be ready to battle! Thank you to my crew and everyone who supports our efforts.”
Brock Heger’s Racing Program is supported by Maxxis Tires, Method Race Wheels, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Alexander Ford, Weller Racing, CBR Performance Products, FK Rod Ends, Rigid Industries, MPI Innovations, Rugged Radios, Dragon Fire Racing, Full Throttle Batteries, PRP Seats, Dynamic Manufacturing, and FiberwerX.
