“We had a great run today, first off the line, no dust, never got passed, just a splash of fuel and that’s it, a clean run start to finish.” Said Danny Wingering about his 1st overall finish this last Saturday morning at the MDR Bilek 400. “I drove the first 300 miles and my dad (Bill) brought it in for the finish. I really want to thank my dad for giving me the opportunity to drive and Jimco for the help with the car, CA Welding Fab and all the guys who came out to help us!”
A late June race in Lucerne Valley usually brings high temperatures well into the 100’s but this race was forgiven by the heat of summer where the temps ran from mid 80’s to 90’s. Running clockwise on Course A off Bessemer Mine Rd., the racers had a bit of everything that Lucerne is known for and what makes for a great dezert race, all in all a great day for a race.
Winning the 1450 class, the biggest class of the day with 11 entries was Greg Sunds. “We started 8th off the line and pretty much had a flawless day. My wife Candice rode shotgun and also drove lap four. Just had a clean run and came out on top”, said Greg. “I just want to thank my crew as well, it was a lot of fun.”
So with a total of 29 entries, it wasn’t the biggest race by far; but for the winners at the Bilek 400 it was just as sweet. After all, winning is winning!
Look out for the next MDR race: the California 200 scheduled for the evening of August 14th also held in Lucerne Valley.
