Never Give Up!

10 miles into the start of the Rally Matt Legg broke a 300M Axle shaft in his 1995 Ranger.  Last night in San Felipe the team was heartbroken.  But since the team had prepaid for rooms to the finish in San Jose Del Cabo they came up with an ambitious plan.  They would tow the race truck back to Phoenix, AZ (about 400 miles from San Felipe), drop the truck and trailer at the Finishline Racing shop, and immediately return to San Felipe to continue participating in the NORRA Parties all the way to the finish in Cabo.

Imagine my surprise when I saw the black and blue LS powered Ranger in Frog Canyon at the bottom of the mid pack this afternoon.  Somehow they sourced a new axle shaft in San Felipe last night, reassembled the rear end and continued racing.

Not only was the truck repaired and working, driver Matt Legg hit the mud pit faster than any driver all day. While I loved the results in camera, I was less than enthused about being covered head to toe in rotten fish scented mud, but in the end it was worth for a great photo and to see a small privateer team persevere through adversity and continue racing.
