9 Stages into the 2022 Dakar Rally

Competitors have completed 9 stages of the 2022 Dakar Rally and the 10th stage has just begun.  Matthias Walkner leads the bike category with a narrow lead of only 2:12 over Sam Sunderland.  Johnny Campbell has been texting daily updates to nimrod in our forum and it sounds like stages 10 and 11 will be exciting, “Stage 11 is suppose to be crazy and turn the race upside down. Stage 10 all these guys are vying for a particular start position for stage 11.”

Nasser Al-Attiyah continues to dominate the car category with 34:05 over Sebastien Loeb.  Since my last update after stage 6, American racer Austin Jones has moved into 1st in SSV and has a 13:47 lead over his teammate in the #416 Can-Am.

Can Seth Quintero be stopped? He currently has 9 stage wins! 1 more and Seth equals the record of 10 stage wins, 2 more and Seth sets the record for most stage wins.  The record is currently held by Pierre Lartigue with 10 stage wins in 1994 – that was during a 17-stage Dakar.  This is only Seth’s second Dakar and he is the youngest racer to ever compete in the rally. Watch below as Seth shows us his OT3 UTV.
