Vegas to Reno is known as one of the longest off-road races on U.S. soil, and this year’s event will see an all-women team compete for 545-miles with nothing but victory in mind. In preparation for the upcoming event, the Motivator’s Motorsports team attacked Bell Mountain over the past weekend for the first and only testing that will be done on the bike since it was purchased; 2015 Honda 450x. Custom-fitted for a uniquely diverse team, the bike was tore down and rebuilt to withstand the harsh conditions of desert racing.
Many women have competed in Vegas to Reno aboard a motorcycle, but none as unique as Motivator’s Motorsports line-up. The three woman team will consist of Tatum Sik, Morgan Tanke and Jacqueline Carrizosa- all compelling motorcycle riders.
Meet Tatum Sik, a 24-year old multi-platformed rider who resides in Temecula, California. Sik has been referred to as the ultimate “triple threat”, as she has a strong motocross background. Turning professional at the age of 16, she competed in the WMX series for over four years. Sik has competed in five X Games Supercross events, earning a bronze medal in 2008. She also holds four Mini Moto SX championships; making her the most decorated woman in the mini-series. Tatum made her transition into off-road after suffering several big injuries in motocross. Little did she know her passion for riding would transpire substantially in the off-road industry as she went on to secure two WORCS championships in 2012 and 2013. In 2014, Sik claimed the AMA Big 6 District 37 Championship, and currently holds the points lead for the WORCS series.
Tatum Sik’s fellow Californian teammate Morgan Tanke, is an 18-year old Endurocross rider who resides in Riverside. Tanke has an extensive trials background, competing for over 10 years; making her the team’s most technical rider. She made her transition into the spotlight after deciding to compete in the AMA Geico Endurocross series where she has worked hard for multiple podiums and wins. Endurocross’s involvement in X Games has given Tanke to compete with the world’s best known Enduro X athletes two years in a row. Fully supported with a factory Beta ride, Tanke is currently 3rd in the points standing for the Endurocross series after suffering from a broken wrist at the second event of the year in Salt Lake City, Utah where she finished third. If you still aren’t impressed, Tanke conquered and completed in the toughest course in the King of Moto’s history- where she made history herself alongside Rachel Gutish as the first women ever to finish the grueling race.
Last, but not least is Jacqueline Carrizosa, a 25-year old female bad ass who resides in Las Vegas, Nevada. Though her name isn’t among the likes of Tatum Sik or Morgan Tanke, “Jacque” is no stranger to danger. Carrizosa has a pretty impressive mult-industry resume, and is no newbie to outperforming the boys. A former navy soccer player, coach and US ambassador, Carrizosa was active military for four years. This female veteran is also a model, entrepreneur, and off-road racer. Her career highlights include being in the Universal Studios movie Battleship (where she helped train popstar Rihanna), placing 2nd in the Mexico CODE Baja series event, earning multiple WORCS wins, and she was also a finalist in the 2015 Miss Mint 400 competition.
This will be the first V2R race for all of the women on the team, and they are competing in the Open Expert Class. The ladies are very excited to see what this experience will have in store for them, and have stated that no matter what happens they are thankful for the opportunity to have such a great adventure with each another. They couldn’t have got this far without the help of Tony Hammers who has provided them with the beautiful motorcycle, bike prep, as well as helping manage the team. Colton Udall, who helped with bike setup during their test day. Karissa Russ for running the media and taking all the teams photographs.
