50th anniversary race expected to draw global entries from 40 U.S. States, 30 countries

to Mexico’s Baja California for approximately 1,200-mile peninsula run from Ensenada to La Paz

ENSENADA, Mexico— Long a staple of desert racing across North America and a cherished sponsor of SCORE International for over 40 years, BFGoodrich Tires today confirmed a multi-year contract extension that will include not only the continuing Official Tire of SCORE, but will now add the title sponsor position for November’s 50th annual SCORE Baja 1000 and as a top sponsor for next year’s 50th SCORE Baja 500. BFGoodrich Tires has been the official tire of SCORE for over 40 years.

The world’s most iconic, oldest, prestigious and longest continuously held desert race, this year’s SCORE Baja 1000 will be held as a race down Mexico’s majestic Baja California peninsula, starting in Ensenada, Baja California Norte and finishing in La Paz, Baja California Sur. Dates for the race and race week festivities are Nov. 12 through Nov. 18. The race is annually the finale of the four-race SCORE World Desert Championship, held exclusively for the past three years in Baja California.

BFGoodrich Tires, the most successful tire brand in all of desert racing has earned 88 SCORE Baja overall race wins including 28 overall victories in the legendary SCORE Baja 1000. BFGoodrich also has earned more individual class wins in SCORE races than any other tire manufacturer. The SCORE World Desert Championship offers Pro and Sportsman classes for cars, trucks, UTVs, motorcycles and quads.

“SCORE International and BFGoodrich Tires have had an outstanding partnership for over 40 years and we are extremely excited to announce the next of level of our relationship with BFGoodrich Tires becoming the title sponsor of the historic 2017 SCORE Baja 1000,” commented Roger Norman, SCORE CEO/President.

“With this new multi-year agreement, BFGoodrich Tires continues as the SCORE ‘Official Tire’ which clearly demonstrates their continued commitment to supporting and growing SCORE International and the desert racing global community’s participant and fan base.”

Since 1976, BFGoodrich Tires has had an extensive sponsor/partner relationship with SCORE and the SCORE World Desert Championship. The international tire company has supported SCORE racers over the years with extensive pit support along race routes that have extended to nearly 2,000 miles as well as providing the BFG-relay radio operations to assist its racers during the competition.

Further, BFGoodrich Tires personnel have assisted SCORE in identifying and plotting the most rugged and challenging desert race courses in the world.

Among the SCORE Baja 1000 overall victories won by vehicles equipped with BFGoodrich Tires has been the last three consecutive years all won by Las Vegas’ Rob MacCachren in his No. 11 MacCachren Motorsports Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy Truck.

“BFGoodrich’s position as a leader in the off-road culture and desert-racing discipline is a result of the commitment to product development in Baja and the right partnerships that have enabled that success,” said Chris Baker, Motorsports Director, BFGoodrich and Michelin North America. “Our commitment to motorsports, in a variety of disciplines, is critical to our brand. From the foundation laid by Sal Fish, when he first convinced our brand to come to Baja, to the current leadership under Roger Norman, with an ambitious vision for desert racing, SCORE has fostered a competitive environment that allows brands like ours to learn and prove our capabilities. We are proud to announce our continuing partnership with SCORE and thrilled to put our name on the iconic 50th running of the Baja 1000.”

Sal Fish, 78, the iconic desert racing promoter who owned SCORE International for 38 years, will be the Grand Marshal for November’s 50th SCORE Baja 1000.

Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer Fish, who lives in Malibu, Calif., has earned more awards in his life than most racers have won races and was the face of SCORE from 1974 until he sold the company to Roger and Elise Norman on Dec. 20, 2012.

A graduate from the University of San Francisco, Fish had risen to the top as the Publisher of Hot Rod Magazine when Mickey Thompson, who founded SCORE in 1973, recruited Fish to be the President of SCORE.

“There is no one in the off-road world that we would have considered more worthy of being the Grand Marshall for the 50th than Sal Fish,” said SCORE owner Roger Norman. “He brought so much to the sport from the rule book to the first television exposure to all the major sponsors and manufacturers that have used SCORE and the SCORE Baja 1000 as the proving grounds for so many different products.”
