“This race is the bomb!” said one spectator about the newest BITD event the Bluewater Desert Challenge held in Parker AZ.
Sunday afternoons races were intense with everyone going for broke to finalize their positions for the weekend. Battling in class 7200 from start to finish was Travis Bozzano and David Caspino with Caspino leading most of the race but Bozzano took the lead near the end of last lap winning both days. “We had a great weekend and the truck ran flawless.,” said Bozzano “This was a great course and Casey put on a great race.”
An equally intense battle was for the Trick Truck crown for the weekend. BJ Baldwin was out to an early lead in front of Steve Sourapas who was teamed with Andy McMillin (Saturdays winner) BJ who placed 2nd Saturday was pushing hard to beat their combined times. The race was close and it appeared that BJ would pull out the win but in the end but Sourapas/McMillin took the win by a mere 47 seconds over BJ.
“On lap one I hit a giant rock near the bridge and torn off part of the front.,” said Sourapas. “BJ was hauling the mail today as I couldn’t catch him. I’m glad Andy was able to have a great day on Saturday which gave me some cushion to still get the win for the Corona Extra team. That last lap was fun as that’s the fastest I driven in a long time. Four teams are within 9 points of each other going into Henderson so whoever wins will most likely be crowned the 2010 BITD Trick Truck champion.”
With the races actually running ahead of schedule on both days the fast paced laps put on a good show for everyone to enjoy. This was definitely one of the most exciting and well run races to date, a must attend on next years calendar.
Next up for BITD is the TransWest FORD Henderson “250” to be held in Henderson Nv. on December 3rd, 4th and 5th.
Race results are pending BITD publishing
