Brock Heger Shines Bright At Glen Helen Sweeping UTV Races And A Pro Lite Win
San Bernardino, CAw
The 2019 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) is in its final home stretch and professional racer, Brock Heger made big moves in his quest for race wins and championships. Heger pilots the #1 plated Yamaha Motors USA YXZ 1000R in the Production UTV 1000 class and also the #12 Maxxis Tires Pro Lite. With Brock racing in two divisions, that means double the track time, which he put two good use over the weekend during the Golden State Off Road Nationals at Glen Helen Raceway. Heger swept both the Production UTV races and scored a Pro Lite 3rd place podium on Saturday & the Pro Lite win on Sunday. Shining bright, Brock is closing in on his championship season aspirations.
“I am beyond pumped on how the weekend went for us!” Heger shared. Our team worked extremely hard to give me fast cars and it paid off big time. It all started pretty good and I had some decent lap times during the practice sessions, but I knew I could be faster. Friday night, my crew and I threw some big changes on the Maxxis Tires Pro Lite truck that we have never tried before.” Brock continued, “I went out for qualifying, but never really got to feel out the truck to its full potential because the motor was running bad and way down on power. We ended up changing the motor after that, and then got everything ready for the races.”
Heger’s first race of the weekend was the Production UTV 1000 event, and at that point was ranked 2nd in points behind Robert Stout. Brock had qualified earlier 3rd fastest and lined up in the second row. At the green flag, the #1 Yamaha was able to jump up into 2nd position on Lap 1 and secured the lead by the end of Lap 2. “I got off to a great start and did what I had to do for the win. Once I got the lead, I never looked back.” Stout finished in 2nd place.
With little time to spare, Heger hopped in the Pro Lite and went out for his next race. “I got the holeshot, the lead, and was running away with it. It was going great; except I made a rookie mistake over rotating through one of the corners. A few turns later, on Lap 8, I got a flat and pulled into the hot pits. My team got the tire changed and got me out right away, but I had fallen back from 1st to 11th. Over the next three laps, I was able to recover eight positions lost and made it back into 3rd place for a podium finish. It was a wild one out there and my crew did an awesome job in the pits!”
The Round 8 UTV event saw Brock again qualified in 3rd, but this time lined up on the first row next to Stout. “I started second and got the lead on the first lap and led wire to wire! I cannot ask for much more than two wins over the weekend. The Yamaha Motors USA YXZ 1000R was flawless and the Maxxis Tires and Method Race Wheel combo are unstoppable.” Heger’s back to back wins, plus qualifying, scored 108 points but only closed the gap on Robert Stout by 3 who earned 105 on the weekend. 7 points now separate them with only one round left. Brock aims to keep his #1 plate and retain the Production 1000 UTV Championship.
For Round 8 of Pro Lite, Heger scored the quickest qualifying time with a lighting fast 51.923 at 69.3 Miles Per Hour. Race officials issued a six-position inversion, which placed the #12 Maxxis Tires Pro Lite on the third row. One other twist was a new track layout that was shaking things up throughout the weekend. Brock explained, “The reconfigured Glen Helen track is super tight and was getting pretty rough. I knew it was going to be full of carnage.”
Heger continued, “We had a bad start and fell back to 8th. I don’t know how it happened, but I was able to drive through the chaos and just kept charging forward. Lap by lap, I moved up and found myself in the lead with two to go.” Brock gained 103 points in Pro Lite, moving up to 2nd in the championship and trails Ryan Beat by just 10 points.
“I am beyond pumped on how the weekend went,” Heger shared. “The results prove that we are in it to win it. My guys killed it and worked hard all weekend to give me fast cars. Special thanks to Jake Velasco Race Prep for making these cars go! I also want to recognize Jeremy McGrath and congratulate him on pulling out the Pro 2 whip and bringing home back-to-back Pro 2 wins. Not just anyone can do that! It was great to have him and his family with the Pro 2 and his girls racing the Junior 2 Karts all pitting together under our tent. We were teamed up for three years and this is my first year I have done it by myself, so it was cool to have him back. We always have good vibes around the pit and push each other to win. Now it’s time to focus on the desert race this weekend to try and wrap up the BITD championship! Thank you to everyone who supports me.”
With only 1 round of racing left in the Lucas Oil Off Road 2019 Series, it is all or nothing for Heger. Now, after Rounds 7 & 8, Brock is much closer to being a repeat Production UTV Champion and capturing his first Pro Lite Championship. The final event will take place in Chandler, Arizona at Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park on Saturday October 26. But first, Heger will venture out into the desert for the Best In The Desert’s Method Race Wheels Laughlin Desert Classic, where he is currently leading the 6100 Spec Engine Trick Truck – Unlimited Class and well in contention for the championship.
Brock Heger’s Racing Program is supported by Maxxis Tires, Method Race Wheels, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, Alexander Ford, Weller Racing, CBR Performance Products, FK Rod Ends, Rigid Industries, MPI Innovations, Rugged Radios, Dragon Fire Racing, Full Throttle Batteries, PRP Seats, Dynamic Manufacturing, and FiberwerX.
