Michelin Star Chef to bring the culinary culture of Baja to The Mint 400 VIP areas!
Michelin star chef Drew Deckman will be cooking up a full menu featuring “A Taste of Baja” for the new Mint 400 VIP/Hospitality areas this year. Drew Deckman is the owner of award winning restaurant “Deckman’s En El Mogor” located in the culinary hotspot of Guadalupe Valley just outside of Ensenada. Dedicated to local, sustainable ingredients, Deckman is a leader in the slow food movement.
Deckman’s Mint 400 VIP Menu will feature a variety of appetizer samplings and entrees including grilled baja style tacos (skirt steak, shrimp, adobo chicken, marinated vegetables, baja fish, and chorizo), fresh Baja oysters, fresh ceviche, fire roasted suckling pigs on the cross, gazpacho shots with baja shrimp, ribeye sliders, lamb gyros a la plancha, all accompanied with fresh handmade salsas (totopos, salsa verde, chipotle sauce, molcajete sauce, pico de gallo).
Prior to his arrival in Mexico, Deckman spent a decade in Europe, spanning countries such as France, Switzerland and Germany cooking with renowned chefs such as Paul Bocuse, Jacques Maximin, Gilles DuPont, and Tommy Byrne. He is Brand Ambassador for SmartFish, a Baja-based sustainable fisheries social enterprise and has previously served as culinary consultant for Casa de Piedra Winery, Paralelo Winery, Estacion por Venir Winery and La Contra Vinos.
“I race off-road in Baja. When I was invited to participate and stamp my name on The Mint 400 I jumped at the chance to share Baja food with some of my fellow off-roaders and fans. I just need to figure out how I can race and cook at the same time! I am bringing some specially sourced ingredients to share with our VIP’s and give them a fantastic culinary experience,” stated Deckman.
“We want to elevate the food experience at The Mint 400. There is no one better than Chef Deckman to bring a great food experience to our VIP areas. I have been a fan of his style of Baja food for sometime. It’s delicious and unpretentious. Now you can relax with your friends and family in shade and comfort and have drinks and fantastic food all while watching all the insane off-road action,” stated Mint 400 CEO, Matt Martelli.

About The Mint 400
Known as “The Great American Off-Road Race™,” The Mint 400 is the oldest, most prestigious, and most challenging off-road race on the planet. This annual four-hundred mile marathon between the top off-road racers in the world includes over three hundred and fifty race teams in twenty-four different classes of off-road vehicles. Established in 1967, The Mint 400 is steeped in American lore. Thousands of racers and celebrities from around the world have attempted to tame the brutal Nevada desert, but less than half of them have ever finished the Mint. An entire week of events lead up to the famed off-road contest in and around Las Vegas, including a vehicle parade down the Las Vegas Strip, a drivers meet and greet, a pit crew challenge contest, the Miss Mint 400 beauty pageant, massive parties, a qualifying race, and a huge ten-block “contingency” gathering on Fremont Street East. Over forty-thousand spectators gather to watch the worlds best off-road race teams do battle at The Mint 400!
