(Abrams, WI) July 4, 2013 – Don Demeny had a great opening weekend of racing in Bark River, with a win and a second place finish, and the veteran racer continued his streak of podium finishes at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. After just missing winning the Super Stock Championship in 2012, Demeny spend the off-season taking the race truck completely apart right down to the stock frame rails ensuring nothing on the truck would be overlooked. So far this season, the extra work is paying off.
When the #885 Nsight Telservices / Cellcom / E3 Spark Plugs / Cooper Tires RAM arrived at Crandon, the truck was ready for the Friday practice session. Unfortunately Mother nature didn’t cooperate as rain fell off and on all day long, cancelling the afternoon practice session. This didn’t bother Demeny Racing much, as the team was at the MORR Test Day just three weeks earlier. The Super Stock RAM truck and its driver were ready for Saturday’s eight lap Round 3 event.
The lineup for the land rush start had Demeny in the middle of the door to door lineup. When the race began, the yellow and white RAM truck stayed out of trouble and began working its way to the front of the pack. By the mandatory caution after lap four, the E3 Spark Plugs equipped RAM was in second place, right behind good friend and Abram’s resident Nick Byng. When the final three green flag laps were complete. Demeny crossed the finish in second place.
Since the truck was running so well and the body didn’t even have a scratch, the Demeny Racing crew thought they wouldn’t have to work on the truck until after Sunday’s race. Of course that wasn’t the case, and the usual overnight prep was complete by dinner time.
Sunday’s Round 4 race saw Demeny work much harder to get to the front group of racers.
The race was running at a much quicker pace than the day before and a few more trucks were in the mix as well. Demeny made the move into third place at the caution lap, but when the rang resumed it seemed like everyone really picked up the pace. Demeny actually broke the rear traction bar on the truck with two laps to go, but that didn’t slow him down as he set fast lap on the final circuit around the track. His efforts awarded Demeny Racing a third place finish.
“Man it was tough out there today,” remarked Don Demeny. “The level of competition is really better than ever. I knew with two to go something broke in the rear end. I thought I was just hanging on to the finish, then I find out that last lap was the fastest. Incredible. Just incredible. Thanks to my crew, my parents, my son Drew who videos my races, and everyone in Abrams that helps out, that comes out to watch. We have a pretty cool little community that really loves its off-road racing.”
As the entire Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL heads the bright lights and big city of Chicagoland in two weeks, Don Demeny currently leads the TORC Super Stock Truck Points Championship.
