Dezert People Lucky 7 is the latest video in the successful line of videos produced by JD Films. The premier tour kicked off Saturday night at the Shark Club in Costa Mesa with over 300 people attending. Since this was “Lucky 7” everyone in attendance had a chance to win one of the awesome prizes donated by some of the sponsors. Fox Racing Shox the title sponsor of the video series generously provided multiple girt certificates for products. PCI Race Radios also donated half a dozen TT models along with girt certificates. OC Motorsports might have had the most desired give-a-way of the night when they brought a Team Associated SC10 R/C Car. Bully Dog, Lucas Oil, Baja Junkies, and Norco Tire also donated prizes to the raffle.
Sunday afternoon the premier tour moved south to K1 Speed in Carlsbad, CA. All German Motorsports organized a gigantic car show/vendor row off road experience. Vendors such as Fox Racing Shox, 4130 Clothing, Team Associated, ORW, Racer X, Lucas Oil and BMW Motorcycles all showcased their products and services. When attendees got hungry in true baja style there was a taco stand on site. Not only did they rival those of which you would find anywhere in Baja, they were free to Dezert People attendees compliments of All German Motorsports. Baja Pits and Locos Mocos were on hand to make sure they were cooked to perfection.
One of the highlights of the day was the Celebrity Race. The main event consisted of 12 drivers who made it through qualifying. From the start of the race there was no holding back by any of the drivers and the staff was very generous allowing quite a bit of nerfing and aggressive driving. Hundreds of spectators surrounded the K1 race course cheering on their favorite driver. Just like in SCORE desert racing there was some controversy during the main when Jason McNeil was in 2nd place and Roger Norman was in first, Roger ended up being put into the wall on what some could call VERY aggressive driving. Half way through the race there was a mandatory yellow and the K1 staff ruled that Roger would be put back to first for the restart, not every racer agreed with that decision. In the end Jason McNeil was able to get back to the front and finished less than a kart length in front of Roger for the victory.
