When the doors opened to the 2013 Off-Road Expo at 9am Saturday morning, it took a moment for the public to make their way back to building 5, where Race-Dezert joined forces with UTVUnderground.com and The Mint 400 to create a one of a kind experience inside Dirt Theater. No one’s to blame, as every five steps is a new conversation with a manufacturer, a quick stop to check out a vehicle, or another photo taken with the beautiful General Tire girls. When the first wave of people reached the back end of building 5, it was a non stop swarm to see what all the noise was about.
A wide variety of off-road machines made it in to the massive Dirt Theater. UTVUnderground brought a full fleet of UTV’s to line an entire wall of Dirt Theater, including Murray Racing’s new Can Am Maverick Max built specifically for this years Baja 1000, UTVUnderground’s 2014 Arctic Cat Wild Cat-X, Alonso Lopez’s GlazzKraft Polaris RZR XP 4 and of course, the now famous UTVUnderground RJ Anderson Polaris XP1K.
Geiser Bro’s brought their brand new sealed LS3 6100 owned by Smiley Motorsports, which makes its debut in the dirt at Best in the Desert’s BlueWater Desert Challenge next weekend. Robbie Pierce brought the pre-runner of all pre-runners, his custom Jimco luxury pre-runner. Jason Zindroski’s 1998 Toyota Tacoma pre-runner (fan favorite) sat in the far end of the booth. Walker Evan’s historic 1977 Dodge truck was on display directly behind the autograph signing area, where fans had the chance to meet and get photos taken with the many athletes we had signing in the booth.
Walker came to sign autographs and take photos with the fans who flocked in line to get their chance to meet the legend. Aside him sat freestyle motocross legend, short course champion and rally racer Brian Deegan. The two made for one of the most interesting autograph pairings but exchanged fun stories and laughs in between greeting their fans. Also stopping in at the booth were names like Johnny Campbell, Carl Renezeder, Robby Woods, Jim Riley, Kyle Leduc, Ricky and Luke Johnson, and the 2013 Miss Mint Taylor Cox.
Dream Racer kicked off the marathon of films to be played inside Dirt Theater, followed by Bragging Rights 2, TUBA Art Films’ nonstop collage of off-road insanity. The 2013 General Tire Mint 400 presented by Polaris made it’s first public screening on the massive 20ft Dirt Theater screen and filled the booth with fans anxious to see the 2pm world premiere of the new Dezert People 10. Dirt Theater remained packed while Vindication, the story of the 2013 King of the Hammers, and Easier Said Than Done, the highly anticipated new rally film, brought the day to a close.
