Final Manufacturer Points–2020 SCORE World Desert Championship

Two-race pandemic-abbreviated season

Jimco, Kroyer, Polaris, KTM, Geiser all win Manufacturer Point crowns in 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship

ENSENADA, Baja California, Mexico—Battling through a year like no other in the history of desert racing and on a larger scale the world, five prominent companies produced enough capable products to have earned SCORE Manufacturer season point titles for the pandemic-abbreviated two-race 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship.
After cancellations and postponements, SCORE was able to work with the Mexican government and health authorities to produce its two biggest events of any year—the BFGoodrich Tires 52nd SCORE Baja 500, presented by 4 Wheel Parts, in September in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico and November’s season-ending BFGoodrich Tires 53rd SCORE Baja 1000, presented by 4 Wheel Parts in Ensenada, Baja California.
Emerging from the mayhem of 2020, earning 2020 SCORE Manufacturer point championships were Jimco Racing, Kroyer Racing Engines, Polaris Off-Road, KTM motorcycles and Geiser Brothers Design and Development, names all very prominent in the international world of desert racing.
SCORE ORIGINAL OPEN-WHEEL CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Manufacturer point titles won this year were led again by Robbie Pierce’s Jimco Racing, winners of the 2020 SCORE Original Open-Wheel Chassis Manufacturer point championship. Based in Santee, Calif., Jimco Racing vehicles were among the top finishers in several SCORE classes in 2020 including the top spots in Class 1 (Cody Parkhouse) and SCORE Lites (Gustavo Pinuelas).
It was a record 25th manufacturer of the year crown for the company that was opened in 1975 by the Julson family and was purchased by Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Famer Pierce in 2018.
As a racer, Pierce won the SCORE TT Legend class for SCORE Trophy Truck drivers over 50 years old in this year’s SCORE Baja 1000 with co-drivers Ricky Johnson and Barry Karakas.
SCORE ENGINE BUILDER OF THE YEAR
Earning their seventh SCORE Engine Builder of the Year point championship in 2020, Kroyer Racing Engines is based in Las Vegas in the industrial complex adjacent to Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Founded in 2000 by Kevin Kroyer this was the third point championship in the last four years for KRE.
The top SCORE season point champions in 2020 using Kroyer Racing Engines were Luke McMillin (SCORE Trophy Truck) and Cody Parkhouse (Class 1). Among the other KRE racers that helped Kroyer when the point championship were Rob MacCachren, second in SCORE Trophy Truck at the SCORE Baja 1000 and Brendan Gaughan, second in Class 1 at the SCORE Baja 500.
SCORE UTV MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
In the sixth year decided by points, Polaris RZR Industries (Off-Road) won the 2020 SCORE UTV Manufacturer of the Year points for the sixth straight year.
Helping Polaris secure its 2020 Manufacturer point title was a pair of individual season class point champions in Kristen Matlock (Pro UTV NA) and Randy Emberton (Pro UTV Stock). Polaris vehicles swept the podium in the Pro UTV NA season points and Wes Miller helped Polaris secure the season point title by winning the PRO UTV FI class in the season-ending SCORE Baja 1000.
SCORE MOTORCYCLE MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
KTM won the SCORE Motorcyle Manufacturer of the Year point title for the fifth time. Helping KTM win their latest point championship were individual class point champions Vance Kennedy (Pro Moto 50) and Bolivia’s Juan Carlos Salvatierra (Pro Moto Ironman). Kennedy and Salvatierra won both races in the 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship.
Santiago Creel also contributed heavily to the KTM point total with a pair of second place finishes in Pro Moto Unlimited in the two races in the 2020 SCORE World Desert Championship.
SCORE ORIGINAL TRUCK CHASSIS MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR
Founded in 1995, Geiser Brothers Design and Development of Phoenix (Jeff and Rick Geiser) won the SCORE Original Truck Chassis Manufacturer season point title for the sixth straight year.
Racers as well as builders, the Geiser brothers have been at the foundation of truck chassis building for over 20 years. In 2020 the recorded enough points to again capture their point championship.
In the closest point battle this year, Geiser Brothers defeated both Racer Engineering and Mason Motorsports by just four points each. Herbst/Smith Fab was fourth, just another three points back.
Leading the way for Geiser in the points this year was Clyde Stacy (SCORE TT Legend) who finished first in the SCORE Baja 500 and second in the SCORE Baja 1000 and Rob MacCachren (SCORE Trophy Truck) who finished second in the SCORE Baja 1000.
Jeff Geiser also helped Stacy and Nick Vanderwey win their season point championship as the third driver on the team for this year’s two races.
HOW THE POINTS WERE DETERMINED
SCORE calculates Manufacturer points on a modified version of the formula used for individual racers. For manufacturer points, podium finishers receive manufacturer points based on the number of starters within each class in the specific category.
