First Ever Class Win for Any American Woman
In a historic finish and the first such for an American woman, Sue Mead crossed the finish line of special stage 13 of the DAKAR Rally in Baradero, Argentina with co-driver Darren Skilton in their FORD Raptor on GENERAL TIRES and clinched a victory in class OP2. No American woman has ever finished the DAKAR and no woman has ever won the event in class.
Beyond the fascination of this milestone accomplishment for FORD, Mead and Skilton, the team never experienced a single punctured tire in the entire 13 stage event encompassing 9500 KM, of which 5000 are “special” timed sections. The American’s proved that the near stock FORD Raptor could match their strength and endurance to conquer the world’s most famous and important rally.
“It’s every bit as challenging as I’d imagined and even harder”, Mead explained, “We’ve been extremely blessed with our GENERAL TIRES and haven’t had to stop once to repair a tire.”
The FORD Raptor is a race ready production truck that only needs a roll cage and safety gear in order to be entered to race in the OP2 SCORE class.
More from Sue Mead and Darren Skilton to follow the awards ceremony in Buenos Aires.
