After a successful first day of racing the TORC Series looked to carry that momentum into Round 2. With no qualifying scheduled start positions for today were based on finish order from Round 1, with the top three being inverted.
Prolite was the first race of the day once again and with a stacked field of drivers it was anyones game. Jerett Brooks started on the second row next to Brad Lovell and it only took a few laps for Brooks to gain the lead. From there it was a battle for second as the young Brooks never made a mistake, and never giving another driver a chance to make the pass. While Kyle Hart is the son of Pro 2 racer Marty Hart, he is definitely making a name for himself as a driver to not be overlooked. He was able to pressure Brooks a few times after yellow flags but just wasn’t able to find that extra gear to make the pass. The same can be said for CJ Greaves who after a Prolite win yesterday tried to repeat his efforts, but had to settle for a third place finish.
In the Pro 2 race Chad Hord and CJ Greaves gave the fans in Primm a great battle to watch. Hord was yesterdays top qualifier and race winner and went out from the start right were he left off. After a DNF yesterday with suspension issues, CJ Greaves kept the pressure on Hord waiting for him to make a mistake, and in turn 1 with a few laps to go was able to squeeze by Hord and take the lead. From there Greaves went into auto pilot keeping his lines and driving so that Hord couldn’t get around him taking the victory. Vegas local and LOORRS regular Patrick Clark battled through the pack to secure the final podium spot.
Not to be outdone by CJ and Hord, Adrian Cenni and Johnny Greaves put everything they had into their Pro 4 race. Johnny was able to take the lead on lap one and use that Toyota powered beast to hold off Cenni. Adrian was able to close the distance multiple times on Greaves using his aggressive but calculated driving style, but today wasn’t the day for Cenni to get around Greaves.
With three races and three podiums (including two wins) the Greaves family put their stamp on Round 2 of the TORC Series and will go into Charlotte on a huge momentum swing.
With their first race weekend in the books it looks like the new ownership of the TORC Series is headed in the right direction. Rounds 3 & 4 will take the series back to Charlotte later this month.
