GridPlay, FanWorld and Count Us In…the many ways to be part of Extreme E
26 August 2021, London: Extreme E is a series with fans at the heart, which is why it has a host of ways to engage with lovers of both motorsport and the environment all over the world. Whether that be voting for a favourite team, taking steps to reduce carbon footprint or speaking to the championship’s stellar line-up of drivers.
GridPlay, which gives fans the opportunity to vote for their favourite of the 18 world-class drivers competing in Extreme E this season, is now live for the Arctic X Prix. The votes are added together to calculate the team score and the top four making it to the five-car Final take their percentage of the votes.
In a voting twist, those teams not making the Final can ‘gift’ their votes to a team of their choice. The team with the most votes selects its grid position for the Final first, followed by the team with the second, third and fourth most votes. The fifth team making it through to the Final from the Crazy Race will take the remaining spot on the grid.
Votes can be cast twice per day via the Extreme E website and on Twitter using #GridPlay #DriverName. Voting for the Arctic X Prix closes at 1300 CEST on Sunday 29 August.
The Desert and Ocean X Prix events have already demonstrated the importance of the GridPlay vote by propelling what some might say are the underdogs, to the top of the GridPlay table allowing them to select their favoured position on the starting line for the Final.
FanWorld was launched ahead of the Ocean X Prix giving fans a virtual experience at home including virtual autograph cards, exclusive access to the Command Centre, driver’s on-board cameras plus a chance to win a spot in a live Q&A with the championship’s world-class drivers.
Two lucky fans were able to virtually meet X44 and Andretti United Extreme E drivers following the Senegal event, and entry is now open for the Arctic X Prix Q&A, with opportunities to speak to current championship leaders Rosberg X Racing’s Molly Taylor and Johan Kristoffersson as well as Veloce Racing’s Jamie Chadwick and Stéphane Sarrazin.
Entries close on 29th August and the winners will be notified by 30th August. Fans are invited to tag their experience using #XEFanWorld with the best content being hosted in the virtual world bringing fans from across the globe together to experience Extreme E.
Extreme E is also highlighting the race for the planet and fight against climate change and asks fans to take real pledges to lead a less carbon intensive lifestyle via its Extreme E Count Us In Challenge. The platform uses the power of sport and excitement of motor racing to inspire fans to take practical steps to reduce their carbon footprint and, in doing so, urge governments, cities and businesses to accelerate progress on climate action.
There are a variety of actions available including not using single-use plastic, walking and cycling more, eating more plant-based foods and driving an electric vehicle. Each step is attributed to the fans’ favourite team, and the team with the most steps at the end of Season 1 will win the Extreme E Sustainability Award.
The Arctic X Prix takes place this weekend (28-29 August 2021) in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland. A host of global broadcasters will be airing the Qualifying rounds, Semi-Finals and Final – more details can be found here.
