Justin Lofton proved without a doubt that his new 2017 Jimco Trick Truck powered by a Roush Yates RY45 powerplant in partnership with ISON Racing Engines is a formidable beast. After breaking the driveline during qualifying, Lofton started 63rd but had already passed 30 vehicles on lap one of The Mint 400.
“The new Jimco made great power,” said Lofton, “The high RPM motor was a blast to drive! We had a new co-sponsor with us this weekend, GHSP Solutions in Motion; it was their first time out to an offroad race. I would like to thank them as well as all of our partners, crew, mechanics, friends, and family that work so hard to put us in contention for the win at every race. We can’t wait to get back up on top of the podium.”
Justin and co-driver Derek Balcunas had to get around a huge number of vehicles on lap one, but still managed to keep pace with the front runners who had clean air in front. At main pit they stopped for 50 gallons of Torco Race Fuel and a pair of fresh BFGoodrich Tires on the back. They took off for another 100 mile lap filled with sharp rocks, huge holes and deep sand on the course. They were in the most remote part of the course when they lost the driveline and had to stop for repairs. After installing the spare shaft that is carried on the back of the truck, they set off again. The course was taking a toll on many of the competitors, the lead swapped back and forth during the day. When their second driveshaft let go, they were forced to pull the plug. It was disappointing but once they get the driveline to live with so much horsepower on tap, the truck will be back in front.
The team’s next race will be at the SCORE Baja 500, June 1-4. Refinements to the new Jimco will continue during the break in action. It takes a huge effort to race in the fastest unlimited class in offroad racing. Tireless efforts are continuously underway from FOX, MultiCam, #AHBEEF, BFGoodrich Tires, Jimco Racing, Cometic Gaskets, Ison Racing Engines, Roush Yates Engines, Baja Designs, Klotz Lubricants, FK Rod Ends, TR Beadlock Wheels, Monster Seal, Holley EFI, Torco Race Fuels, Motorsports Safety Gear, and Rugged Radios to make the team’s Jimco Trick Truck outperform the competition. They will be put to the task again when the Baja 500 rolls around in June.
