The two truck team of Kleiman Off-Road Racing had a solid weekend of racing at the TORC Series presented by AMSOIL “The Big House Brawl” at Crandon Off-Road Raceway. The Ponsse Cooper Tire backed PRO-Light racers ran nearly trouble free all weekend to finish strong during both rounds of racing.
Saturday saw the familiar yellow and black PRO-Light trucks line up for the “infamous” land rush start. The Kleiman brothers came out of Turn One in the middle of the fifteen truck group and quickly began pushing to the front. As usual the PRO-Light division of the TORC Series is very competitive as the entire field seemed to stay close together throughout the entire nine lap race.
Overnight the team made some chassis adjustments to both trucks as diligent work on Cody’s hot rod corrected the fuel delivery issue.
Sunday’s Finale saw the Ponsse Cooper Tire trucks come out of Turn One in great shape, as both trucks were poised for a podium finish. As usual, the second day of racing of a TORC weekend always has the intensity ramped up to another level. On the opening lap Kyle was running in third place when contact sent the younger Kleiman well back in the pack.
As the race continued the #42 Ponsse truck was in another tight battle for a podium position when he dove inside another racer heading into the tight Land Rush corner. With nowhere to go, the two trucks touched sending the other truck upside down. The incident brought Kyle into the pits for a quick stop and go penalty. Somehow Cody, who was close behind, missed the mayhem and continued without incident.
After the penalty, Kyle stayed calm to push on to finish the day in eighth place. Cody had a great run in the team’s back-up truck to complete the afternoon in a solid sixth place.
“I’m really thankful to my family and team that I’m able to race these last two weekends,” commented Cody Kleiman. “After the chassis failure in my regular truck just days before Joliet, I didn’t think I’d even be out here. Our back-up truck has been around for a while. It started out as a 4-cylinder and was converted to the V8 package. I think it’s the oldest truck on the track and you know it still runs pretty darn good. There’s a good chance the other truck will be ready for Elk River. My brother and I just push hard all weekend looking to land on top of the box.”
“I really enjoy going door to door at fast tracks like Crandon,” noted Kyle Kleiman. “Saturday we a great battle all race and just missed the podium. In Sunday’s incident I had my front wheel inside the door of Morris heading into the land rush turn and suddenly had nowhere to go. We came together and I guess the officials thought I was over aggressive when he rolled. To get this truck running up front consistently, it needs to go through a redesign in some areas. Until then we just keep pressing for the win.”
The inaugural TORC Series presented by AMSOIL event at Elk River Motor Park will be July 16-17 in Elk River, Minnesota.
If you can’t make it to Minnesota to watch the Kleiman family compete in person, the entire weekend will be broadcast live at www.torceseries.com/live.
