Look Out Dakar the Americans Are Coming to Town

The Yokohama Sonora Rally Announces Colton Udall as the Road to Dakar Winner!

Sonora Rally 2020 is over, but plans are just beginning for this year’s “Road to Dakar” winner Colton Udall. A five-time Pro Motorcycle Baja Champion and seven-time 24 Hour of Glen Helen Endurance Champion, Udall beat out eight other top riders for the big prize this year.

Finally, in 2021 I will race my first ever Dakar Rally. My ‘Road to Dakar’ started 10 years ago after Johnny Campbell introduced me to the world of rally. I am genuinely thankful to Sonora Rally for organizing an incredible event and, also, giving the opportunity to earn this entry. Sonora Rally offers a great racing experience with a lively challenge and an epic adventure. A true “warm up” on the Road to Dakar. The plan is building more USA Rally awareness while soliciting American sponsors to help in achieving my Dakar goal for 2021. Ricky Brabec won the Dakar in 2020 along with Skyler Howes and Andrew Short placing 9th and 10th. It will be an honor to race with these fine American’s come January of 2021, and I invite ALL in the effort of doing so.” Says Colton Udall

Sonora Rally is the only official “Road to Dakar” event in North America and has become a proven training ground for those who are looking to compete at the world-famous Dakar Rally.

“We are proud to have competitors like Ricky Brabec and Skyler Howes continue to train and race with us at Sonora Rally and look forward to following Colton’s journey as he makes his way to Dakar 2021. This year the start of Sonora Rally was extra special, with the attendance of Maxime Morin from the competitor’s department of Dakar and ASO. His support, presence and beautiful Dakar presentation stirred up even more enthusiasm and passion for our event and the Road to Dakar competition” – Co-Founder and Rally Race Director, Darren Skilton

The new millennia’s 20s is set to be “roaring” once again in the USA – but this time with off-road engine sounds. With more Americans like Brabec, Short, Howes, and of course, Udall fired up to take on the challenges of Rally Raid, it might finally be that time (we fans have been waiting for) The Star-Spangled Banner becomes a reigning theme song at podiums around the world. And it’s up to humble events like the Yokohama Sonora Rally, presented by Method Race Wheels, to stoke the flame.
