Dodge City, KS
The crowds came out in full force in Dodge City to check out the TORC Series at its first stop of the 2013 season! Mother Nature tried her best to ruin the races with light rain on Friday & winds upwards 50 mph. This did not deter the 2012 Pro-2 & Pro-4 Champions one bit. Bryce Menzies kicked off Friday night with Ricky Johnson taking a parade lap in front of 2,700 plus fans for being the 2012 Champion in each of their respective classes.
Earlier in the day on Friday both Red Bull Menzies Motorsports drivers qualified first. This meant on Friday night they would both start the race in the 6th spot and would need to work feverishly on getting near the front of the pack.
The Pro-2 race began with Bryce Menzies passing 3 trucks by the end of the first lap. Menzies ran strong early and found himself out front by the yellow flag halfway point. After gaining those 2 points, Menzies never looked back. He completed the fastest lap of the night that eventually led him to winning the first race of the season! Leaving off right where he did last season. Bryce’s teammate Ricky Johnson watched him finish strong and take the win in Pro-2; could RJ do the same?
Johnson started in the 6 spot and similarly to Menzies he found himself near the front of the pack by the end of the first lap. At the halfway point it was all RJ, who would go on to take the win convincingly! Ricky ran away from the pack Friday night giving the Red Bull Menzies Motorsports a boost of confidence heading into the 2013 season!
Saturday started with gusty winds, but that did not stop the fans from showing up again. Menzies started in the 6 spot once again but had to fight hard to get near the front. By the halfway caution, Menzies found himself in 2nd behind series rival Rob Mac who was running strong on Saturday. Menzies would drive his truck as hard as he could but it wasn’t enough, he finished a close 2nd behind Mac. This puts both drivers in a tie for the points lead after the first 2 rounds.
Ricky Johnson started in the same position as Menzies and got to 3rd position before losing a power steering pump. It was an unfortunate finish for the Pro-4 program at MMS but it’s racing. Thank you to all of our sponsors and fans for coming out to support our program. We will be back stronger for rounds 3 & 4 in El Dora, OH on May 10 & 11!
