(Agua Dulce, Calif.): Taking several strides forward toward its goal of making the 6th annual General Tire Mexican 1000 the very best event yet, NORRA today announced several new upgrades to the race’s first overnight stop in Bahia de Los Angeles (Bay of Los Angeles).

On Sunday, April 26th, NORRA will not only spend time and effort to add new amenities to its newly relocated “Tent City” area, but it will also add a dash of international culinary flavor thanks to award-winning Chef Roberto Alcocer.

As has been the case since the first NORRA Mexican 1000 in 2010, Day 1 of the event for the four-wheel classes will conclude in front of the Costa Del Sol hotel, located in the heart of the seaside hamlet of Bay of Los Angeles.

However, new for 2015 is a highly upgraded “NORRA Tent City,” which has been moved from the old location slightly south of town to a beach front lot directly across the street from the Costa Del Sol finish line. The new “Tent City” features 40 concrete pads that can be reserved from NORRA for a nominal fee by race teams, offering a far nicer place to work on cars to prepare them for the next day’s racing. These locations also provide unlimited camping spots, large lights, clean toilets, a shower facility and music until 11:00pm.

For those teams interested in reserving one of the 40 concrete pads in NORRA “Tent City” please contact Jennifer Coleman directly by calling (858) 400-7440.

Also located across the street will be the “pop-up” bar and restaurant “Cantina San Borja”, open to NORRA participants who have pre-purchased the NORRA-issued wristband. The cantina will be open from 3:00pm -11:00pm, and will be serving cold drinks and Azunia Tequila margaritas.

Chef Roberto Alcocer, considered by many to be one of Mexico’s best chefs, will add a culinary touch to the 2015 General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000. Alcocer will be preparing a gourmet dinner for all NORRA participants in Bay of Los Angeles’ newly created “Cantina San Borja.”
The highlight of “Cantina San Borja ” will be the special dinner created for the competitors and crew by Mexican cooking sensation Roberto Alcocer. Chef Roberto has recently been awarded “BEST NEW RESTAURANT in Mexico”, by Travel + Leisure Magazine and has been featured in the LA Times, OC Register, LA Weekly and major Baja and Mexico mainland media outlets. He is the executive chef and owner of Malva Cocina de Baja as well as the executive chef of TAHAL, both located on wineries in the Valle de Guadalupe, just north of Ensenada – the host city for this year’s first three days of the NORRA Mexican 1000.

However, these accolades aren’t the only reason NORRA is excited to have him in Bahia de Los Angeles. Although not a racer himself, this sport is definitely in his blood. “My dad, Roberto Alcocer Sr., has been a mechanic and a racer for over 30 years,” explained the famous chef. “He specifically moved to Baja from Mexico City because of the year-round racing. I spent my childhood watching Dad race pony cars, rally cars, off-road, motocross and Moto GP. This is how I know what the racers and their crews will enjoy in order to be happy when they arrive in town!”

Alcocer’s special involvement with this year’s Mexican 1000 comes courtesy of NORRA Rally Master Darren Skilton and wife Erin-Lee Skilton, who co-founded

“We are very excited to host NORRA racers, crews and guests in the beautiful Bay of Los Angeles overnight stop this year,” added organization President Mike Pearlman. “Having Chef Roberto Alcocer prepare and host a gourmet meal at the finish of Day 1 is something we have dreamt about for years. Thanks to Darren and Erin-Lee Skilton, that crazy idea is now coming true.”

Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, four-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern desert Rally Raid cars, pre-runner trucks, buggies and motorcycles.

Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.

The General Tire NORRA Mexican 1000 is supported by General Tire, American Racing Wheel, South Point Hotel Casino, Walker Evans Racing, Azunia Tequila, KC HiLites, Bilstein Shock Absorbers and Mastercraft/Impact Safety.
