Round 2 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) rolled up to Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona for the “Duel in the Desert.” Pro Lite off-road racer, Christopher Polvoorde had his sights locked in for a big win and was leading all but the last two laps when a shredded tire ended his race just short of the checkered flag victory. Had the #94 STEEL-IT / Kicker Audio / General Tire Pro Lite scored the win and the 50 points awarded, Polvoorde would likely be leading the championship points.
“Well this weekend was a heart breaker,” admitted Christopher. “We had it all lined up and were right where we needed to be. The qualifying run put me on the front row. I got a great start and led the entire race. With two laps to go, I got a flat tire after hitting a large piece of debris on the track. Besides the finishing results, overall I am super happy with how everything else went, and I am ready to go for the Estero Beach in a few weeks.”
At this early stage in the 2019 season, there is not much of a spread across the board, and Polvoorde has consistently earned high scores in the first two events in the 2019 series. A 2nd place finish in Round 1 offered 48 points. Additionally, 4 bonus points were earned for qualifying 2nd fastest during Round 2. Plus, 1 extra point was awarded for leading the Round 2 Main Event at the halfway point. Christopher now sits back in sixth, 23 points off the current leader Ryan Beat; the 2018 Pro Lite Champion.
Going into Round 2, the #94 STEEL-IT Pro Lite was looking like the one to win. Polvoorde was fastest during Practice Session 1 with a lightning quick 38.618 second lap time. Christopher recorded respectable laps in the Top 5 for Practice Session’s 2&3. As mentioned before, the excellent qualifying results had Polvoorde well positioned for the race.
“The team had everything on point,” Christopher explained. “We went out during practice on Friday and had a quick time. Qualifying on Saturday morning went great, and I ended up 2nd fastest. The General Tire Grabber X3’s were hooked up, and I was synced up perfectly with the STEEL-IT / Kicker Audio truck. The King Shocks were absolutely dialed and we were just running smooth and fast.”
Polvoorde continued, “The inversion put us on the front row and right off the start I got out in front for the lead. I was completely focused on what was ahead, just driving it flat out and setting the race pace. Brock Heger was able to stick his bumper in and challenged for position. We had a nice battle going for the lead until he fell off with a mechanical failure. After that, I was just on cruise control.
It was a very rough track, so I was trying to keep it on all fours and keep walking away from the pack. After leading every lap with just two laps to go, all of a sudden my tire began shredding. I believe I hit a piece of debris, it was a heart breaker for the entire team. Anything can happen; it is just part of racing. This past weekend showed that we have the speed to put it on top, so we are going to do some more homework and head down to Mexico swinging. Thank you to everyone who makes this possible.”
