!!! RALLY ALERT !!!
Notes From NORRA TECH –
NUMBER SPECS & LIGHTING
To Be Scrutinized!
1) NUMBER SPECS:
Thank you all for your help with the vehicle number rules in our 2020 event. It is very helpful at TECH, for checkpoints, and staging!
For the 2020 events, we ask that you are careful to prepare your vehicles numbering, ahead of time, and insist on conformity to the regulations in the 2020 Rules (1.10 Race Vehicle Numbers – NUMBER SPECS. pictured below). This makes TECH INSPECTION go MUCH FASTER!!
NORRA will insist on conformity to the numbering rules and regulations. Please make sure the windshield number is in the designated place. This is especially crucial due to several days of staging in our events. It is acceptable to have the windshield number placed vertically in any of the four corners that frame the drivers face (In multi-seat vehicle – Drivers side A-pillar or center pillar). The co-driver side should is not acceptable. In some cases it may be necessary to make a small number plate to accommodate the correct location. The upper or lower left corners of the windshield area or the top or bottom of the center pillar are only acceptable if there is no other option (single-seat vehicle). It is also crucial that ALL other numbers – rear, sides, and roof, are easily visible at all times, and in the required designated locations. Race number approval will be at Tech Directors discretion. If you are not in conformance, you will be required to purchase approved numbers and or backings for a nominal fee at tech before being passed. We recommend preparing the numbers before your arrival, it will be cheaper, faster and easier on your team.
Please contact NORRA Technical Director Greg Garber or Natalie “Radalie” Crow of SignArt Graphix if you need help preparing your numbers to comply. Natalie and her team can prepare NORRA legal numbers in advance, and have them for your team at TECH.
Thank you all for doing your part to help keep this amazing event safe, and running smoothly! If you have any questions, please see below:

NORRA asks that you pay extra attention to the quality and placement of your rear amber lights as well. Please insure that the amber lights are attached to the ignition, are bright, and visible. Many lives depend on this working safety feature. Tech will be scrutinizing compliance to lighting rules, especially amber lighting (4.4.3 Lighting. pictured below). Compliance will be required to pass Tech!
Beginning in 2010, the National Off Road Racing Association (NORRA) began promoting a rebirth of the NORRA Mexican 1000 rally. The unique off-road rally was co-created by promoter Mike Pearlman to consist of special stages (unlimited speed timed stages in the dirt) linked together by controlled speed liaison / transit sections (highway). The one-of-a-kind, once-a-year, five-day rally includes vintage off-road vehicles and motorcycles, as well as modern pre-runners, trucks, buggies, UTVs, bikes and desert Rally Raid cars.
Pearlman’s late father Ed and others established the first running of the NORRA Mexican 1000 off-road rally in November of 1967, which eventually became internationally recognized and evolved into the Baja 1000 in the mid-1970’s.
NORRA enjoys corporate partnerships with Yokohama Tire, Method Race Wheels, South Point Hotel & Casino, Bilstein Shock Absorbers, STEEL-IT, RIGID, Multitool USA, Satellite Phone Store.com, Biltwell, Cerveceria Transpeninsular, PCI Race Radios, The Fab School, Schampa, K&N, Baja Bush Pilots, Mag7 Pits, the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame (ORMHOF), B3KREATIV, and many more.
