LAKE FOREST, CA (May 5, 2009) – On Saturday afternoon Carl Renezeder put his Lucas Oil/General Tire Unlimited 4 Ford in the winner’s circle for the 80th time in his short-course career. And then on Sunday afternoon he posted win number 81 in the same truck. A first-time facility at Speedworld Motorsports Park in Surprise, Arizona drew a standing-room-only crowd both days for the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, and the event drew huge compliments from fans and drivers alike.
“The wins are great – that’s what we get paid to do,” explained Renezeder after Sunday’s victory, “but I love the battles. I had so much fun racing today.”
Renezeder and Alan Pflueger put on quite a show for the fans in the Unlimited 4 race on Sunday and both drivers climbed out of the trucks with genuine smiles. Inside, outside, high, low – they swapped leads several times, several ways, over several laps before Renezeder finally made it stick with just a few laps to go. He now leads the championship points race by eight points over Pflueger.
The Unlimited 2 races weren’t worth remembering for the team as Renezeder went from leading to points to third place after two disappointing rounds. On Saturday, a flat relegated him to an 11th place finish, while on Sunday he was black-flagged for pushing Greg Adler in turn four on the second to last lap, dropping him to an eighth place finish.
There’s still plenty of racing left to go in the season, and the team has its site set on more wins and two championships. The next event takes place the weekend of June 27 and 28 in Southern California at the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex.
