Crandon, Wisconsin—The last time Scott Douglas raced at Crandon International Off-Road Raceway he ended the day standing on top of the winner’s circle podium holding the well deserved AMSOIL Cup. That victory was Douglas’ third short course Cup win, taking the BorgWarner Cup in 1997 and 2006 before it.

Unfortunately, due to monsoon-like rain, Scott Douglas was unable to defend his Cup record – both the Sunday round of PRO4 points racing and the Brush Run Crandon Cup race were postponed until the Friday prior to the Labor Day Crandon races. The rain was so heavy that the infield pond swelled to cover the race track with standing water. These trucks can race in mud, but several feet of water make it imposible for the safety crews to do their job.

In Saturday’s PRO4 race, Scott entered turn one in fourth and quickly fell into a fast pace. The Crandon track crew added fresh dirt to the surface of the famous circuit during the off-season and the changing conditions had teams searching for new tire and suspension setups. In the case of the AMSOIL BFGoodrich Ford F-150, Douglas found the truck had a little too much grip in the corners. Douglas Motorsports tested at Crandon in the weeks leading up to the race, but conditions on the freshly groomed surface were quite different than during testing.

“Our BFGoodrich tires were hooking up very well out there today, a little too well in some corners…the truck was very tight,” commeneted Douglas after the race. “We had so much side-bite that truck wouldn’t rotate in the corners the way I like. I would throw it into a corner and instead of pivoting around, it would simply dig in and drive forward. It takes a serious tire to do that when you are working with 900 horsepower, these new BFGoodrich race tires are pretty amazing.”

Scott drove hard chasing down the race leaders who were running at a blistering pace. The pace was so fast that Johnny Greaves set a new lap record during the race. Douglas worked his way to third then challenged Ricky Johnson for second. Scott passed Johnson, only to be knock back to sixth place by an aggressive move by Mark Jenkins. “With so much side bite in the rear tires I wasn’t able to drive my usual race lines and it was more difficult get inside trucks I was passing.” When the checkered flag fell, Douglas had worked his way back into fourth and was challenging for third.

Combined with his win in round one at Red Bud,Scott Douglas is tied for second with Johnny Greaves just one point behind Ricky Johnson. TORC Series racing resumes July 22nd and 23rd at the Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, North Carolina.
