Season Best Finish For Jimmy Weitzel With 2nd Place Pro Lite Podium At Glen Helen
San Bernardino, CA
Rounds 7 & 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) faired well for Jimmy Weitzel, driver of the #59 Simon Performance Technology Pro Lite. It was a solid outing that produced a season-best result with a 2nd place podium on Saturday and backed it up with a 4th place finish on Sunday to top it off. Jimmy was also able to garner enough points to move up in the division championship points ranking, breaking into the Top 5, and not too far removed from Ryan Beat.
“It was a great weekend at Glen Helen!” Jimmy announced. We had a season-best finish on Saturday with a 2nd place podium. I had a fast truck all weekend and got it up to 4th place on Sunday. Overall, it was awesome, and I am thrilled. The support from my partners, family, and friends is enormous. Thank you to Simon Performance Technology, General Tire, Ultra Wheel Company, FOX, Howe Performance, Dynamic Manufacturing, SDG Suspension Development Group, Rigid Industries, Weitzel Motorsports, and Christopher Hanlon.”
The Pro Lite field is stacked with top competitors chipping away for any available points as the 2019 season comes to an end. With less than 50 points separating the top 5, it has been a wild season so far. Weitzel has maintained as a consistent finisher and was ranked 5th going into the weekend.
Saturday’s Round 7 saw the #59 Pro Lite starting 1st on the front row. “I qualified 6th after struggling with the new track layout but got lucky with the six position inversion,” explained Jimmy. “So, we started up front but made a huge mistake as I biked it into turn 2. I was a little shaken up, but I got it turned back around. Unfortunately, I fell to the back of the field to about second to last place at the end of Lap 1. By the time I got through the next lap around the track, I had recovered two spots.”
Weitzel continued. “On Lap 7, I started to make my move and passed six trucks over the next five laps. It was a real test of mental fortitude and difficult on a challenging track. A bunch of trucks got flat tires, but our General Tire / Ultra Wheel combo stayed true and held together perfectly. I came back through the pack, eating dirt and chomping through a tough rutted out course to grab a solid 2nd place podium. It was a crazy race with a lot of carnage, but we made it out and are ready for the next one!”
On Sunday for Round 8, Jimmy would start 8th off the line with some serious traffic to manage. To make matters worse, on Lap 1, the #59 Pro Lite fell back even further to ninth place. But from that point forward, Weitzel would continue to make passes on the field ahead and worked his way up into the 4th place by Lap 12. Jimmy went onto the finish with another good race to end out the weekend.
“Sunday, I again struggled with the race start,” Weitzel shared. “I was able to make a comeback, and race hardback to the front. We just got caught up into some early carnage that held us back. I ended up making some clean passes up for a 4th place finish.”
With the season nearing the final race weekend, and the Top 5 separated by a mere 48 points, Weitzel has a legitimate shot to challenge and race his way to a Pro Lite title. The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series will host the Round 9 during the GEICO Off Road Championship Presented By General Tire on October 26th at Wild Horse Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona.
