|Riverside, California (April 17, 2012) – The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series is making its return to Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park and the 2012 edition of the Stronghold Motorsports team is poised to take the Inland Empire off road motorsports hotbed by storm. Set against the spectacular backdrop provided by the Ortega Mountains and Cleveland National Forest, Lake Elsinore has garnered a rich history rooted in two and four wheel off road racing. This weekend, April 21st and 22nd, two of the greatest icons of the regions’ motorsports culture, Jeremy McGrath and Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg will be leading the charge in Rounds 3&4 for the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Superteam of the Year.
After a two year absence from hosting the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, capacity crowds are anticipated to fill the brand new purpose built facility at Lake Elsinore Motorsports Park and with many cheering on the Stronghold Pro2 tandem of McGrath and Stenberg, the duo will be hard pressed to perform in front of their Southern California fans. Stenberg, a resident of nearby Temecula, has parlayed his status as one of the most successful riders in freestyle motocross history into a burgeoning off road racing career. Now, with the 2010 SuperLite championship under his belt, “Twitch” has stepped up to the series’ premier 900 horse powered Pro2 class and with two rounds of racing to get him acclimated to his Supercross.com/Loctite truck, he is poised to scorch the Lake Elsinore track.
For McGrath, now in his second season behind the wheel of his Monster Energy/ WalkerEvansRacing.com Pro2, his return to Southern California and Lake Elsinore will be a monumental step in his quest for his first short course off road racing championship. While the podium eluded him in the opening rounds of racing at Firebird Raceway, McGrath has consistently been among the leaders in the class since joining Stronghold Motorsports full time in 2011. With an intricate understanding of the complicated Lake Elsinore surface and the drive to establish himself as a contender for the season title, this weekend provides McGrath with a prime opportunity to insert himself into the chase.
As McGrath and Stenberg find the formula to reach the top of the box, 19 year old newcomer to the Stronghold organization, RJ Anderson’s performance at Firebird Raceway in Rounds 1&2 has put him atop the ProLite standings entering this weekend. Looking to maintain the consistency and speed that he utilized in capturing the 2011 UTV Championship, Anderson has quickly catapulted himself into the position of being considered among the favorites to take the crown in his Monster Energy/WalkerEvansRacing ProLite. Throughout the opening weekend, Matt Cook demonstrated that he can run with Anderson and the fastest drivers in the enormous ProLite Field. And while a trip to victory lane eluded the Supercross.com/Loctite truck at Firebird, it is highly unlikely that the same mechanical gremlins will stand in the way of Cook capturing the hardware this weekend.
Lake Elsinore will also mark the renewal of the 2010 ProBuggy championship battle between Cameron Steele and Larry Job. That season the title went to Steele, but with Job joining the Supercross.com/Loctite team and both drivers competing within the Stronghold Motorsports organization, Steele in his Monster Energy buggy has his work cut out for him if he is to reestablish his position as a perennial favorite in the class.
With a total of seven vehicles to be competing under the auspices of Stronghold Motorsports Garrett Poelman is the team’s representative in the SuperLite class. Although there was just a short break separating the first two rounds from this weekend’s event, Poelman and his crew has been diligently updating his truck while devising a formula that will put him atop the standings in the challenging spec truck field.
