Riverside, California (April 4, 2012) – Making his Stronghold Motorsports debut this past weekend at Phoenix, Arizona’s Firebird Raceway, 19 year old off road racing phenom, RJ Anderson dominated the field on his way to taking his first career ProLite truck victory in Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series competition. Anderson’s Stronghold Motorsports teammate, Matt Cook was also impressive as he consistently put himself in podium contention throughout the weekend.

The Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series returned the Valley of the Sun for Rounds 1&2 of the 2012 season with Stronghold Motorsport’s RJ Anderson immediately setting the tone for the weekend with blazing fast lap times throughout ProLite practice and into qualifying. With capacity a crowd on hand, Anderson shot out of the gate in Saturday’s Round 1 and quickly took over the lead. Late in the event, while distancing himself from the largest field in class history, Anderson unfortunately lost traction in the deteriorating track conditions and spun relegating him to a fourth place finish.
|When the green flag dropped on Sunday’s second round, it took just three laps for Anderson to work his way to the front of the pack. Not to be denied a second opportunity at victory, he fought off his challengers throughout the 18 lap melee to earn the top spot on the podium. With the dust settled from the weekend, RJ Anderson’s first career Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series ProLite win, combined with his fourth place finish in the opening round catapulted him to top of the early season ProLite standings.
“It’s exciting to come out this first weekend and stand up on top of the podium for our sponsors and Stronghold Motorsports,” proclaimed an elated Anderson. “This is a tough field with a lot of talented drivers. We felt prepared and although we had an excellent race on Saturday and it was disappointing to give up the win. I’m pumped that we were able to came back and get it done. This gives us great momentum that we can build on as we battle for the ProLite championship.”
For Anderson’s Monster Energy/ WalkerEvansRacing.com teammate, Jeremy McGrath, a solid finish in Saturday’s first round was mired by challenging track conditions during Sunday’s Round 2. While he began Saturday mid pack, McGrath was able to battle through the field for a fifth place spot. Sunday, fighting to gain traction on the muddy and sloppy surface, he was spun out by competitors on two separate occasions which left him continuously fighting from the back of the pack.

Recent addition to the Stronghold Motorsports lineup, Matt Cook spent the off season with extensive testing behind the wheel of his ProLite and as he entered his second season of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing ProLite competition at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix, Arizona, that hard work paid immediate dividends. Although the final tally did not reflect Cook’s strong performance during Round’s 1&2, it was clearly evident that his skill combined with his newly reworked ProLite truck were going to be a lethal combination in the 2012 season. Friday’s fast qualifying session earned Cook a spot among fastest competitors in Saturday’s opening round. Establishing solid position at the front of the pack, he continued to battle as he held on to a podium sport. Unfortunately, a mechanical failure halted his advance and put an end to an otherwise impressive showing.
Sunday’s second round had Cook again showing his speed as he qualified with the fastest in the ProLite class. And again, duplicating his performance from the previous day, Cook was dicing at the front of the pack, briefly taking the lead early in the race. Midway through the event, a ferocious landing off a jump resulted in a wheel failure that halted his march towards the finish line and a certain podium result.
Also making his first appearance for Stronghold Motorsports under the Supercross.com/Loctite awning was Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg. Although he was now completely recovered from an off season testing accident, the track conditions proved challenging as the multi XGames medalist continues to work his way into contention in the series premier Pro2 division.
Rounding out the new additions to the program are Larry Job racing in ProBuggy and Garrett Poelman competing in the spec SuperLite truck class. For Job, who has narrowly missed earning class championships in recent seasons, his quest for the title began at Firebird Raceway with eighth and fourth place finishes while Poelman opened his season with a seventh and fifth place finishes in the opening two rounds.
