Stronghold Motorsports takes a Mud Bath at Dirt City Motorplex

AMSOIL CHAMPIONSHIP OFF-ROAD RACING SERIES
Round 7 & 8 Dirt City Motorplex
Dirt City Off-Road National, Lena, WI

Lena, WI, (July 31 – Aug. 1, 2021) Back to Wisconsin, the Stronghold Motorsports team showed up for the mud and it provided its own challenges to the team.

Another first time visit to the Dirt City Motorplex in Lena, WI for the Stronghold Motorsports team. Dirt City Motorplex is a brand-new track located about 30 miles north of Green Bay. The 1-mile short course features tight turns and fast straightaways.

Friday’s practice and qualifying had the team changing the gearing for Madix Bailey’s ProLite truck. During qualifying Madix was struggling with handling in the turns and qualified 8th. Doug had his Pro4 truck running smooth and was able to qualify 1st, however he drew the 6th position in the inversion.

For race Round 7 that took place on Saturday and Sunday, a large swell of rain drenched the track before Saturday’s race and proved to be tough on Madix in his ProLite race. Getting constantly smacked in the face shield, Madix used every single tear off he had and resorted to wiping off his shield and eventually raising his visor just to be able to see. Though he struggled through the turns he was able to finish the race in the 7th position.

Doug’s Pro4 started in the 5th position, and he quickly moved to the lead. He led the entire race, gaining the fastest lap time of the race, until the last 3 laps when his Pro4 started having fuel issues. He fought hard to keep off the competition but couldn’t keep his position and ended up finishing the race in 4th.
Madix and his ProLite sit in 3rd position in the points and Doug is sitting in the 6th position in points. Both teams hoping to gain some momentum in the next couple races and finish out the season with better results.
The next race for the Stronghold Motorsports team takes place at the Bark River International Raceway, in Bark River, Michigan on August 14th and 15th.

As the rain continued to beat down on the Dirt City Motorplex, the Pro2 and Pro4 class races were postponed to Sunday morning. Starting in the 6th position, Doug and his Pro4 truck battled mid-pack for the first portion of the race and swiftly moved into 3rd before the competition caution. Doug made a pass and had his sights on 1st place, when on the closing laps on the exit of turn 1 he broke a front differential and cost the race. Unfortunate end to round 7 for both the Stronghold Motorsports drivers and team.

Round 8, Madix was pumped and ready to take on this round under clearer skies, but on the start, he caught a rut and rolled the ProLite which resulted in a full race restart. Lucky enough Madix was able to keep his same first position. He was able to hold off 2nd and 3rd position until the competition caution, where he was passed on the restart. A few laps later he was off the race pace and suffered a tie rod bolt breakage which took him out of the race.

Doug’s Pro4 started in the 5th position, and he quickly moved to the lead.
