Costa Mesa, CA, August 2, 2010. (Azuñia Racing / Intersect Racing) A newcomer to the TrophyLite Series, CEO of Azuñia Tequila. Jim Riley takes first place in the SNORE KC HiLites Midnight Special Offroad Race in Ridgecrest this past weekend. With only six races under his belt, this win takes the Azuñia Tequila Racing team to a higher competitive level and a force to be challenged with for future races. “I am extremely happy with the combined efforts and success of the entire Intersect Racing Team and our marketing partners including General Tire, KC HiLites, Blue C Advertising, Hostile, Lincoln Welders, Wahoo’s Fish Taco, Lake Elsinore Casino, MasterCraft Safety, CompDoor.com, Currie Race Enterprises, Dezert People 8 and Fox Racing Shox. This win will forever be a triumphant memory for me”, said Riley.
For this race, Riley partnered with 2008 and 2009 TrophyLite Champion and current second in class points leader, Louis Chamberland who hung the number one plate of 6001 on the Azuñia Tequila TrophyLite in addition to the Agave Racing team led by Rick Johnson for vehicle support and logistics. Chamberland took the reins on Friday night for qualifying which ultimately led Azuñia Tequila / Intersect racing to the fastest qualifying time and ultimately starting the Azuñia Tequila TrophyLite in the first position for race day.
With temperatures reaching over 110 degrees during the day, the Azuñia Tequila Trophylite worked perfect all weekend long. It was the #1 qualifier Friday night, and it kept its momentum into Saturday night. “I cannot personally thank Jim Riley enough for the opportunity he has given our team to succeed again in the ever competitive TrophyLite Class.” stated Chamberland. The lap times between Chamberland and Riley were relatively close with the seasoned Chamberland running faster in Lap one and two at 1:18 and 1:23 and Riley running a close 1:21 and 1:27 on lap three and four. This being the sixth race that Riley has raced his TrophyLite, he has certainly moved his lap times closer to the experienced Chamberland with only two minutes and fifty-nine seconds behind Chamberland’s best lap. This certainly says a lot for the future racing career of Jim Riley” says Eric Morley from Blue C Advertising.
Race day went very smooth as Chamberland started the race at sundown and took the first two laps. “Initially the course was tough and then as the sun settled and the laps went on it got tougher and rougher”, comments Riley. Greg Foutz, President of TrophyLite, went on to say “Jim and the Azuñia Tequila team had an awesome race at the KC HiLites Midnight Special this weekend. Teaming up with the Agave team of Rick Johnson and Louis Chamberland was a great move for Jim and their combined race efforts have proven to be a force to reckon with. Winning the TROPHYLITE class in the dark from the pole was a testament to their team, driving, and the prep on the truck. It was great to see the well-deserved win for the team. You should have seen the bottles of Azuñia tequila clanking at the post race impound area… classic”.
Next up for Azuñia Tequila TrophyLite team will be the Best in the Desert – Vegas to Reno race which is August 19-21, 2010.
