The Rip continues today without our fallen brother OX and a handful of his closest bros who have returned to the States.
11-time Baja 1000 Champion Johnny Campbell took over as the trail boss of the 2011 Monster Energy Rip to the Tip presented by General Tire. Despite the grief of losing one of our own on the trail, the decision was made to continue south and this is the way we are sure OX would have wanted us to continue. We rode south on the beach from San Felipe to Puertocitos and it was heavy wind and a minor sand storm that pelted the Rip Brothers for 30 miles before settling down. We reached Corner and Coco was NOT there, but we all went in and signed the book. Then we took the southwestward route toward Chapala and across the dry lakebed and the weather was perfect with cool breezes and sunny skies. Jesse Beck led the group through a 25 mile single track and we rode the rest of the pavement into Bay of LA without incident and arrived just before sunset.
We certainly miss all of our Rip Bros who could not be with us today but we kept you anyways. Tomorrow morning the Rip Bros will sample some secret single track trails just outside of BOLA and then head south toward San Ignacio where we post up for the night.
All of the Rip Brothers pay tribute to and honor our fallen brother Jeff “OX” Kargola.
