The Sun Sets At LOORRS Glen Helen

With racing under the lights this weekend out in Glen Helen, LOORRS setup two sets of qualifying today for the racers (First session qualified for Saturday, second session for Sunday). What was supposed to be a hot sunny day instead turned into a muggy, cloudy (and slight sprinkes of rain) day, but that didn’t stop the drivers from letting it all out to try and qualify on the top spot.

Going into Glen Helen the biggest news coming out was of the new LCQ rule put in place for the Prolite class. Because of the large numbers in the class, drivers will have to battle it out in a Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ) if they don’t qualify high enough the day before. Qualifying sessions were broken into two groups, with the top 8 in each group advancing to the final race. Only first and second place in the LCQ will move on to the main with a provisional rule that if you are in the top group of points but don’t make the final in qualifying, you will automatically get a spot in the big show.

Bradley Morris would lay down the fastest lap in Prolite for Saturdays race and Sheldon Creed sporting his new Mad Media designed graphics took the top spot for Sundays race. Pro 2 was all Brian Deegan who qualified fastest in both qualifying sessions, but Deegan can’t sit still as the laps times in the top 10 in both sessions were only seperated by a little over a second. Carl Renezeder laid down the fastest lap of the day in his Pro 4 qualifying first with a time of 46:813 for Saturdays race, but long time rival Rob MacCachren put down a lap time of only 1 thousands of a second slower in the second qualifying session.

Opening ceremonies start both days at 7pm out at Glen Helen but if its anything like previous years you’ll want to get there earlier if you want to find a seat!
