It looks like Toyota will be returning to the SCORE Baja 1000 this November. Toyota announced they will enter their “lightly modified” 2015 Tundra TRD Pro Series in the Full Size Stock Class on November 12-16th.
Of course we’d like to see 22-time SCORE Baja 500 and 1000 Champion Ivan “Ironman” Stewart behind the wheel but Toyota recruited the legendary Toyota off-road racer to head the TRD Pro Desert Race Team. Team drivers consist of two Toyota athletes including 9-time X-Game Gold BMX Rider Jamie Bestwick and Freestyle Motocross Rider andSCORE Baja 500 Champion Andy Bell.
Ryan Millen, son of off-road legend Rod Milllen, and Toyota Racing Development Enginerr, Ted Moncure, will also share part driving duties. Toyota Racing Development (TRD) and Toyota Truck Chief Engineer, Mike Sweers, will be navigating the 1000+ miles of putting the new Tundra to the test.
“My job is to ensure that the Tundra exceeds the expectations and demands of every single one of its owners,” said Sweers. “With over 1,000 miles of harsh terrain, The Baja 1000 is the ultimate proving grounds for research and development that helps us to continuously improve our trucks.”
Competing in the Full Size Stock Class will allow Toyota to R&D the new close to stock conditions. Unforgiving Baja will be the perfect terrain to test the trucks resilience.
