Travis PeCoy Continues the Charge for a Championship at Glen Helen Raceway

Octane Junkie Travis PeCoy and 20 of the most competitive Modified Kart drivers in the nation made their way to Southern California to do battle at the legendary Glen Helen Raceway.  Nestled in the heart of the Southern California lifestyle of off-road racing, the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS) played host to some of the most electrifying racing action we have seen in the 2014 season.

With the “home field” advantage leaning towards the Octane Junkie himself, Travis PeCoy knew he would be bringing his family and sponsors to watch him attack a track he was very familiar with and could predict every inch of the track at Glen Helen Raceway.

After qualifying on the third row for Round 9, PeCoy saw the green flag and hit the ground running at an attempt to quickly get out in front where he could get some clean air.  Unfortunately for Travis PeCoy he was spun from behind just two corners into the first lap causing him to turn sideways and create and instant log jam.  As a result of the incidental contact from turn 2, PeCoy suffered a punctured right front tire and was forced to make a trip to the hot pits for repair.  The Travis PeCoy Racing crew instantly got to work on the punctured tire and the Octane Junkie would be quickly back on his way to racing action, except this time he would be forced to restart the race at the rear of the field.

Picking off competitors one by one as the laps clicked away, Travis was building confidence and progressively setting faster and faster lap times ultimately setting the pace for the entire race.  As if starting from the rear of the field wasn’t bad enough, Travis PeCoy would once again get turned around with some help from behind forcing him to go to the rear of the field for a second time.  Travis would go on to finish with a respectable 9th place finish awarding him with those much valuable Modified Kart Championship points to add to his charge towards a Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Championship.

“If I said I wasn’t frustrated with today’s race I’d be lying, but I’m happy with my performance and the #573 ran flawless.  Points are what matter, we are in this for a championship”, Travis PeCoy commented.

After shaking  off the disappointment of Round 9, Travis PeCoy prepared for another day of racing action and yet another chance to stand on top of the podium.  Although luck didn’t go his way in Round 9, Travis had something to prove to himself and he was determined to do so in Round 10.

Back in familiar territory, PeCoy started in the third row among the pack of angry Modified Karts all looking to claim the top spot.  When the green flag dropped the FMF Octane Junkie Modified Kart #573 of Travis PeCoy found the fastest line through turn one and quickly found himself within top contention.  The young Octane Junkie quickly made sure people knew he was on a hunt taking every opportunity he could take.  As the laps ticked away, Travis was able to avoid all contact and keep clear as he chased down the leaders.  After a near impossible pass on the outside on the last lap, PeCoy was able to pull off a well-earned third place finish, making this his 5th trip to the podium in 10 rounds of racing.

Travis PeCoy went on to say, “I’m super pumped!  Everybody came out today to support me and I am just excited to be able to get this podium for them.  Driving a racecar is easy, but having the motivation and support you need is the hard part.  It isn’t always easy to find that kind of support but thanks to my family, friends, crew and sponsors I get to do the things I love to do.”

Travis PeCoy would like to thank all of the loyal partners that chose to support the Travis PeCoy Racing Modified Kart #573 – FMF/Octane Junkies, Action Sports Canopies, Oakley, CMI Precision, ThyssenKrupp Materials and Lucas Oil.

About Travis PeCoy:

13 year old Travis PeCoy has been around racing since his early diaper days. Father Bobby PeCoy is an experienced Pro Buggy driver with a strong history of placings in the old CORR and the current LOORRS racing divisions. Travis gained interest early on and jumped in eagerly to the Junior Kart division. After some years of on-track education, young PeCoy found his way to the podium and eventually winning races. After a stellar 2012 Junior Kart season, PeCoy-Racing decided it was time to move up to the even more competitive Modified Kart class. With a bright season ahead of him, and some fast lap times to boot, Travis has full focus on his new race truck, which seems to get faster every race.

Each race is a complete family experience with Dad Bobby calling the shots, Mom Tina handling operations & hospitality, Big Rick keeping the truck dialed in and a whole host of friends and family coming together for support.

2013 has seen early success with Travis back on top of that familiar podium position, as well as appearances in some new avenues including the Robby Gordon Stadium Super Truck series. Oakley has chosen Travis to be one of a limited number of supported drivers in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series, along with FMF Racing promoting Travis as a featured young upstart in their new “Octane Junkies” collection.

When Travis is not burning laps, he’s splitting time between football, lacrosse, hanging out with a great group of friends and capturing all forms of racing action through the lens of his own camera.
