Travis PeCoy and the entire Travis PeCoy Racing team made their way to Sparks Nevada in a quest to take on the highest flying most extreme track for Rounds 5&6 in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Not only would Travis PeCoy be forced to push the FMF Octane Junkies Oakley Modified Kart #573 to the limit on one of the most extreme tracks that shortcourse has to offer, but PeCoy would also be forced to do battle against some of the best Kart drivers in the sport in an attempt to gain some much valued championship points.
Going into Round 5, Travis PeCoy sat 5th in the championship point standings and if there was ever a good time to push for the championship points lead, now is the time.
As the sun started to go down in Sparks Nevada, Travis PeCoy and crew chief Ricky Pucket put the final touches on the FMF Octane Junkies Oakley Modified Kart #573. When the green flag dropped Travis PeCoy quickly established his position on the track after starting in the third position. With a seemingly uneventful first half of the race for PeCoy as he sat in the third place position behind Heger and Polvordee, Travis used the mandatory caution to his full advantage. On the restart Travis PeCoy rocketed ahead of Polvordee and was absolutely glued to the rear bumper of Heger. As the race started to wind down Travis PeCoy continued to pressure Heger in an attempt to overtake first place. It was imperative that Travis PeCoy remain focused and keep his eye on the ultimate prize; the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Modified Kart Championship. PeCoy would be left to settle for a second place finish and a well-earned podium in Round 5.
“This race was tough, I had to decide to either back it down a bit to save the car for Round 6 or push it to the limit to take the position from Brock Heger. I like standing on top of the box at the end of the race, but we got some good championship points and that’s what really matters”, mentioned Travis PeCoy.
Round 6 was yet another opportune time for Travis PeCoy to put the FMF Octane Junkies Oakley Modified Kart one step closer to a Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series Modified Kart Championship. Once again Travis PeCoy would start from the third place position although Round 6 would play out much different than Round 5. PeCoy saw the green and nailed the throttle quickly jumping to the inside line and positioning himself at the head of the field after the first turn. This is right where PeCoy needed to be in order to further gain those much needed championship points. Keeping a steady pace and checking out from the rest of the field, Travis PeCoy did what he does best flossed the Octane Junkies Oakley Modified Kart #573 in front of the standing room only crowd in Sparks Nevada.
Travis PeCoy would finish off the weekend off on a high note and take the win in Round 6 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. This first place victory would boost Travis PeCoy into the first place position for the overall Championship points standings and give him some much needed momentum going into Rounds 7&8 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele Utah next month.
“I’m super pumped! My crew and my sponsors have worked so hard to help me to get to this point and im just happy I can come through when it counts. We are almost to the halfway point of the series so I know we still can’t relax but it feels great to lead in the points, it’s going to be a battle for the rest of the year for sure”, said Travis PeCoy.
With his sights set on winning a championship, the Octane Junkie Travis PeCoy will charge into Rounds 7&8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series with a target on his back and a quest for his third win of the season.
