Las Vegas, NV
The bright lights will be shinning in Las Vegas as “Sin City” welcomes back the best that off road racing has to offer. Round 3 of the General Tire “Trophylite Race Series” resumes action at the Best in the Desert / General Tire “Vegas to Reno” off road race Friday, August 17th. The spec built Trophylite race truck teams are prepared and ready for the hot and challenging Nevada desert as they go for gold in the longest point to point race in the U.S.A.
Coming off an impressive win at the Great American race known as the General Tire “Mint 400” in March, brothers Steve & Joe Hengeveld will once again be chasing the hot shoes and series points leaders Troy & Gary Messer, a hard to beat father & son team.
You also can’t count out the team of Potts & Jones the new comers from Arizona who are used to the heat and the winners circle. P.J Jones Jr. (The son of legendary Parnelli Jones) along with team owner Craig Potts won the Best in the Desert “Silver State 300” in May in a close race decided by a 30 second margin against the Messer’s. In a recent phone interview P.J stated “I am excited to be racing the Trophylites, the trucks are equal and I like that it takes team work and driver strategy to get to the winners circle”. Charlie Currie from “Currie Enterprises” a company that provides Trophylite with its spec rear end housings and gears is also coming for his share of the gold. He will be piloting his new 2012 Trophylite truck which are now being built from Stewarts Race Works in Santee, CA.
Trophylite team mates Lance Wells and Richard Hale are coming all the way from Alaska to look for gold in the Trophylite prepared rental truck.. Young guns, Tyler Denton and Ben Abatti III have both been testing like crazy and can taste the gold. Businessmen Brian Antle & Brandon Hollander have been crunching numbers figuring out how to get their share of the more than $8,000.00 prize purse up for grabs.
One thing is for sure, teams will be using Maxima Racing Oils performance base lubrication in their Trophylites to keep up with the high temperatures and extreme conditions they will be facing. Maxima Racing Oils recently partnered with Trophylite as the “Official Oil” of the series and has posted a “Maxima Performance Auto” bonus for the teams to kick off their new line of Performance Auto fluids made specifically for racing applications.
Trophylite has also thrown another strategy into the mix for the teams at this years “Vegas to Reno” race. A recent decision from General Tire off road racing manager Tony Talbert allowing the popular General Tire red letter “Grabber” as an alternative tire choice to teams over the Grabber AT2 All Terrain tire that has been the spec tire and back bone for the series. The AT2 has proven to perform perfectly in all types of terrains.
“This gives teams a choice to use the more aggressive tread of the Grabber”, states Talbert. Both tires are a well performing DOT tire that can be purchased from your local dealers for your light truck or SUV.
For the 1st time Trophylite’s new R8 full size truck with FORD 5.0L V-8 power and full size version to the smaller Trophylite R4 trucks will race against similar built trucks in the newly formed 6100 class. Trophylite marketing partner Azuñia Tequila’s founder Jim Riley and Trophylite’s manager Rick L. Johnson will pilot the General Tire / Azuñia Tequila R-8 against others teams racing the difficult 535 mile course to Reno.
All Trophylite teams will be turning the night sky into daylight on their way to the pot of gold using KC HiLites popular HID carbon fiber pod off road lights.
