It was a steep learning curve for Brandon Arthur at rounds 7 and 8 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Held on a brand new track at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri, Arthur and his crew had only a few laps to get his MAVTV, Stronghold Motorsports, Pro Traffic Services, Toyo Tires, UTV and Pro Lite truck up to speed. The new track is incredible. Not only is the facility first rate, but with 9 unique turns, huge jumps, and a challenging rhythm section, the track is an adrenaline playground for the drivers. When the green flag dropped on Saturday, racers did not really know what would be in store for them as the race progressed.
“We had a lot to learn on Saturday,” said Arthur, “We made a tire change for the UTV race and it sent us backwards. We eventually figured the track out, but honestly we just missed the set up. For Pro Lite it was the same situation. I was running third for a while but on a restart, I got pushed out wide and then got passed twice. I worked my way back to 4th. It was not a bad finish; just not what we are aiming for.”
After a pair of races under their belt, it was time for Brandon and the crew to get to work. It also allowed the fans a chance to stop by to say hello, and get a good look at the MAVTV, Stronghold Motorsports, Pro Traffic Services, Toyo Tires, HRT Motorsports, KMC Wheels, Benchmark Performance, Aeromotive Fuel Systems, Magnaflow Exhaust, FOX, Competitive Metals, CBR Performance, Wirefab, Summers Brothers, ECP Powder Coating, F&L Racing Fuels, Maxima Racing Oils, FiberwerX, Heatshield Products, Bink Designs, Redline Performance, Gear 49, Howe Performance, R2C Filters, Baja Designs, Heatwave Visual, Yamaha Racing, bLU cRU, STEEL-IT, and Mob Armor and Pro Lite truck in their pit.
When Sunday rolled around, they had both vehicles up to speed. “We qualified 3rd in the UTV and started on the outside of the front row,” said Arthur, “We dropped back to 3rd but then made the move for second. As we battled for the lead, the car started to come on strong. Our set-up was perfect; we were able to grab the lead and hold on to it for the win!”
The Pro Lite truck was equally sorted out for round 8 on Sunday. They qualified 1st and started the race on the front row. Brandon got the holeshot, but carried too much speed into turn 4. He went wide allowing Christopher Polvoorde to get past him. The two drivers battled back and forth for several laps until the mandatory caution came out. On the re-start, Brandon used what he learned to out fox Polvoorde to take the lead.
Once out front, he put his head down and clicked off consistently fast laps. “The truck setup was great and I was able to hang on for the win,” says Arthur, “It was a huge accomplishment for our team to come back and run so strong on Sunday. It was a great way to cap off an incredible race weekend at the new track in Wheatland.”
Brandon and the MAVTV, Stronghold Motorsports crew will be back in action on Aug 26 – 27 at Wild West Motorsports Park in Sparks, NV.
