Spring has sprung in  Sacramento  and that means the start of VORRA’s 38th year of off-road racing in Northern California and  Nevada with both short course and desert off road racing offerings.  March 17th marked the opening round for the seven race 2013 race season at Prairie City SVRA just outside of  Sacramento , CA .  The weather was perfect over the weekend and so was the racing.
4482 JP GOMEZ 1ST ULTRA 4
With classes offered from UTV to Class 11, Sportsman to Open Group T and a three moto race format there was enough track time for all.  Taking the win in the Sportsman Class with a three moto sweep was Stephanie Hayos driving her  Toyota truck.  Dennis Jean outlasted Pauly Hart for the UTV win, Eric Steiger took home the win in Class 9, and Ryan Sargent was the winner in Class 1.  The Class 11’s had a great race and it was David Meek who took top honors over Paul Nauleau & Ryan Cook.  In Ultra 4, JP Gomez swept all three motos for the victory over teammate Marco Gomez.
It was a close race in Class 10 and Group T and after the scores were calculated Tyler Mort & Tristan Butcher were the victors in Class 10 and Steve LaRoza in Group T.  These two teams bested their competition who each had mechanical breakdowns in moto one.
801 DON GERMAN 2ND GROUP T
Steve LaRoza and Don & Chris German were both doing shakedowns for the Mint 400 this weekend.  The Germans blew the ring and pinion in moto one.  Was that good or bad luck?  Their crew along with the LaRoza crew pitched in and helped to rebuild the rear end.  The Germans ended up winning motos two and three but a 5th place DNF in moto one cost them the win.
The next race will be another short course race at Prairie City on April 21. www.vorra.net
