Gavin Harlien Expands Racing Program
with Red Bull Global Rally Cross SuperCar Lites Effort
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – June 29th, 2015 (Mesa, Arizona) – Gavin Harlien, professional off road truck racer, has caught the Global Rally Cross (GRC) fervor and is expanding his successful racing program to include a GRC SuperCar Lites effort. Harlien has teamed up with Tim Bell Racing and is assuming a GRC Lites Ford Fiesta formally driven by Geoff Sykes.
The very first opportunity for Gavin to compete in GRC is this holiday weekend at MCAS New River at Camp Lejeune North Carolina on July 5th. Round 4 of the 2015 Global Rally Cross will offer spectators, soldiers and their families a historic blast with rally cross racing being held at an active military base.
Gavin recently made his second appearance in the Summer X-Games driving Formula Off Road Trucks and is noted as the youngest motorsport athlete to compete in X Games history. Many of the racers at X-Games were keen on the different motorsport events taking place and paying close attention to the opposite side of the paddock. Like the others, Harlien’s interests were peaked with the confrontational on track racing that GRC is known for. Gavin got up close and personal with several of the high profile GRC teams.
Since that weekend in Austin, Gavin has had one thing on his mind. Shifting focus and preparing to race in a new Olsberg MSE manufactured SuperCar Lite prepared by Tim Bell Racing out of North Carolina. Harlien is already heavily invested in this effort with significant testing taking place. GRC Lites is known as the feeder class and a stepping stone to the GRC SuperCars.
Tim Bell has zero reservations about Gavin stepping into rallycross racing. “I have a very optimistic outlook with Gavin going forward through the rest of the 2015 season. We only met Harlien last week a few days before the Daytona event. From the start of his very first test in a GRC Lite, we recognized this kid was a naturally talented racer. After the initial warm up lap, Gavin seemed up to speed and as comfortable as any driver running respectable lap times when compared to many seasoned GRC pros at the session.”
“Gavin shadowed us all week and seems very professional.” Bell continued, “He clearly understands what it takes to be a competitive driver. His ability to communicate feedback about the car, making improvements and advancing the setup to better suit his driving style is something I am thrilled about. It is motivating and we are looking forward to the next round of Global Rally Cross with Gavin behind the wheel.”
Harlien has always been a fan of just about all forms of motorsports, but off road type racing is at the top of the list. “It is just the most fun,” Gaving declared. “You are literally on the edge of out-of-control, flying through the air, and swapping paint. We have seen great success in both the Formula Off Road Stadium Super Truck Series and Lucas Oil Off Road’s short course racing. Rally Cross looks to fit my style and the competition is ripe. I am looking forward to taking this challenge head on.”
One thing Gavin has going for him is the success that other short course off road racers have found in Global Rally Cross. Most notably is X-Games gold Medalist Brian Deegan and the winningest SuperCar Lites driver Mitchell DeJong are both racers who have found great success in GRC and short course racing. Between GRC Lites, Formula Off Road, Lucas Oil Off Road, kart racing, and the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals, Harlien is optimistic with his diverse driving background and extended time in the drivers seat racing in competitive motorsports.
